Tough decisions

in #decisions15 hours ago

I had to make a somewhat tough decision recently, as some of my reserves are coming close to being extinguished, I had to look for something to sell as I'll be traveling a little bit in a month or so.

Naturally having spent a decade active here pretty much every day, even the time I had surgery, it didn't feel right to sell Hive so I was looking for something else that hasn't taken a big dip downwards but instead maybe appreciated a bit in value as that'd make it easier to part with.

The choice was not easy anyway, since that thing is a multi-billion dollar company with a trading card game which's hype seems never-ending. Given that I've spent Hive to purchase it over a long period a few years ago however, it made it easier. Looking back, when Hive was worth roughly 20-25cents, I spent maybe a total of 40k Hive to purchase packs and rip them open either myself or secondhand through streamers/content creators when I couldn't find the packs I wanted locally. Now as Hive is down under 5 cents and the cards have appreciated in value, that same 40k hive is worth closer to my whole stake altogether on this account. Funny how quick some things can change.

I've also been debating trading it back for Hive, but unless it's made easy where someone's willing to give me crypto/hive in exchange for them, I'd rather not go through exchanges anymore as that's also been quite a pain in the past to deal with.

I haven't posted much about my collection, I've dropped a few compilations here and there that others have made of my lucky streaks, but I'm happy to say I've been quite lucky. The smarter play would've been to purchase cards directly rather than rip packs open, but I guess we all have our vices and I'm glad mine worked out for the better.

I have big goals for my Hive stake, but currently a lot of moving parts are making the future hard to predict. If there were no bills/outside pressure to pay for things, I'd try my very best to get as much hive as I can before we end up on the magical 0.95% inflation number (+/- hbd/dhf fluctuations) in 2036. Now of course I wouldn't cut corners or skip on morals as that wouldn't be a good way to appreciate the work, pain and sweat (and probably tears), although there have been plenty of times that's been tested in the last decade through code changes and other things that have been all "well the blockchain allows it so 🤷‍♂".

My goal short term is to try and reach 600k hp before the end of the year, then if I can it'd be cool with 21m hp before 2036.

Aim for the stars they say and if you fail you'll at least do quite well.

I'm still very far off from that goal, had I played my cards right I'd have been a lot closer today, but that's just how the cookie crumbles, I'm sure there'll be more opportunities down the line.

Dunno, not sure if exhaustion/burn-out, but lately I've stopped caring as much about "politics" or "impressions", or maybe these prices have shown the true colors of some people forcing me to not really care anymore. My opinion has changed quite a lot of some poeple I used to look up to and see do good work in the past, not sure if it's AI's that's kind of made things easier to notice/detect, could be it's been obvious for many others, but I'm going to try and be a lot more vocal about shit I see in the future and try to call it out rather than just focus on my own things. I feel there's a lot of pretenders and incompetence around and many of them have been in charge of a lot of value in the past that I'd rather not see being reproduced, so I'd wanna be around to point that out.

I do try to take things seriously, from small to big things, and I try to be active wherever I can. Pay attention to both big and small stakeholders while also treating small and big ones the same, I think that's a good way to continue to do things.

I mean I get it man. You gotta do what you gotta do, but selling your little Pocket Monsters... ugh that is not a easy decision but I have been in that position before and had to sell a few single cards worth a couple hundred each. IT SUCKED and yeah there are times where I think about it and feel bad for selling cards that I personally pulled from packs all those years ago. But I don't regret it for a second because it was a necessary thing I had to do.

Normally, we see much of people's true colours when things aren't going their way but It isn't just that, it is how they choose to deal with it. I would say keep going and yeah, why not aim for the stars? It's free to aim, so why not? You might actually reach it. Haha!

We never really know which decision will turn out to be the right one.

we all sometimes make hard decisions because that is what we can do best that time

Hard times, I know that feeling almost all my assets are -90% or -99% down.

But I don't care much at this point about that.

Funny thing when I read from people who are here for 1 or 2 years that I'm rich xD because I have 1k$ in game token lol.

Sadly, this is what those digital assets are for.
When we need them, when the money in the physical world isn't enough or if for some reason isn't available.

I understand how hard it is for some people to part with it, but that's just life.

Man, I powered my whole account down a year or two back and now it's back higher than it ever was and folks that were supposedly in it for the long haul have either bailed or gone silent. So, I know what you mean. Sometimes you're just picking between the bad option and the worse option when it comes to finances. Might end up being a good move down the road - ya never know!

Do you think 600k HP before the end of the year is still realistic with the current Hive price

We seem to be having similar trains of thought. Although not an immediate concern, the old fiat stockpile will need buffing up this coming year. Selling BTC goes against my HODLer mindset, so my eyes have fallen on my neglected numismatic collection. See ya on eBay! 😁

A 2036 Hive goal. That is dedication and why I haven't given up yet. With people like that here, it's hard to imagine it "failing" as in going away or the token remaining too worthless forever, even if it never reaches where we all thought it would

My goal short term is to try and reach 600k hp before the end of the year, then if I can it'd be cool with 21m hp before 2036.

Damn. And here I thought that I was very ambitious with my goals of reaching 50k by the end of this year and 100+k by end of the next year. I would love to have millions HP as well but so far even that 100k seems really far away. Either way good luck to you.

Do whatever needs to be done; good luck, and I hope everything leads to an improvement.
