Introduction to Interior design
Interior design is a multi task profession. It is the art and science of planning which helps in enhancing the lifestyle of its users. In other words, interior design is making something beautiful, managing space to accommodate aesthetics in order to make it beautiful and pleasing to its users.
Who is an interior designer? An interior designer is someone who plans, researches, coordinates and manage an enhancement project of the interior of a building.
There are seven (7) elements of interior design.
Space - this defines the boundaries you have to work on. I.e the distance between and around furnitures and objects and their proportions within a room.
Line - is defined as the boundary of each shape which can be employed to bring attention to a focal point and influence the feel of the space.
Color - this is very important and powerful as it can influence your mood and also has the power to make your room feel larger, lighter or cozier.
Light - there are two types of lights which are natural light and artificial lights.
Form - this is shape which includes the shape of the room itself along with the objects within it like furniture, artwork and decorative accessories.
Texture - this is how every part of a room scheme feels like from furnitures to floor coverings, to fabrics, to decorative accessories contributes to the selection of textures in a room.
Pattern - just like texture, this adds interest and life to a room. This might come from an area rug, wallpaper, soft finishing and artworks. The style of the pattern could be floral, geometric , abstract or any other design should be in harmony with the overall style of the scheme.
