Deep Work

in #deepwork2 years ago

Sup my fellow brothers, I have recently started reading this book titled,"deep work". The book teaches how to get into a deep work flow state where we focus on a difficult task for hours without distracting ourselves. Just wanna share a crucial idea of how we leave a residue of our attention as we switch from task A to task B where task A is an easy task or done without proper concentration while task B is a task requiring a lot of focus. and therefore not be able to accomplish task B properly. I feel that this is very relatable in 2 ways. Firstly, when we take math or science examinations as students and skip questions to "focus" on the more difficult questions, our mind is still focused on the question we skipped and we would not be able to answer and score well for the harder question. Secondly, when we start off our day with reading our whatsapp messages, we leave a residue of attention on social media and we will find it difficult to focus on the more imperative tasks of the day like journalling, exercise, reading and meditating. The book genuinely tackles problems like leaving attention residue on previous tasks and gave me a wider range of insights about the importance of deep work. Hope that you would give it a read, it costs about $20.
