Defense Mechanisms

Those are some of Freud's ideas , I know some of his ideas were really controversial , but the following can be observed in everyday's life with a little attention :

  1. Repression : Blocking a threatening idea , memory or emotion from consciousness.

  2. Reaction information : Transforming anxiety-producing thoughts into their opposites in consciousness .

  3. Regression : Returning to more primitive levels of behavior in defense against anxiety or frustration.

  4. Rationalization : Justifying one's behavior or failures by a plausible or socially acceptable reason in place for the real reason .

  5. Denial : Refusing to admit that something unpleasant is happening , or that a taboo emotion is being experienced.

  6. Displacement : Discharging pent-up feelings , usually of hostility , on objects less dangerous than those that initially arouse the emotion .
