There was an interesting order from Indonesian game developers to draw some art for their game site. This is a geolocation game where you go with your phone or tablet with GPS enabled searching for some treasures in different places of your hometown. Initial concept sketch from a client was just a scheme for me to undertand what he expect me to draw. So if you are planning to order something but you think you can not draw anything at all. Don't worry. Just give me some scheme. That would be enough to start.

Moodboard
I like pirates theme but in real life you can not see and think all the time about the pirates only so you have to research it. So I've started my research collecting nice images of pirates to create a moodboard which can make me feel like a pirate and draw like a pirate.

Sketches and process
Then goes sketching stage. I am drawing simple things with pencil on paper or digitally. It is more or less fast process so it's easy and cheap in sense of time to correct or anything here.
My first initial sketch was like this. I don't remember what the client said but I suppose he inpired me to do better giving some hints what he wanted to see or to make attention at.

Second sketch was greatly improved so my client was happy to accept it asking me to color it quickly.

Adobe Interview

Since was using Adobe Photoshop to create this art after some time Adobe wanted to feature my work in their blog and they've asked me to give an interview. I was happy to do that ofcourse :)
One of the sources was the task itself, I was inspired by this client’s project. The client had asked me to draw pirates with devices searching for treasures roaming the sea. But there were other references like Jonny Duddle, for example. Moscow was also another source of inspiration – this city has a special energy that keeps you moving really fast when doing any business. I guess it’s the energy of money – everybody goes to Moscow for earnings. So, each and every visit to this city makes me draw really fast and I’m amazed about how the city can influence you.
Since I’ve been doing the Sri Sri Yoga for many years, yoga is my main source of inspiration since it gives you an enormous amount of benefits, including the ability to focus more on any subject, to stay positive and energetic throughout all the day and to let go of all the stress situations easily. It also opens up feelings of inner joy and love. It’s hard to explain with words, but it’s like constantly being in love with yourself.

Thanks!

Great realization, thanks for sharing the process! Hehe i think to have a scheme is a good point to start, but it's funny how it turned out though!
Thank you :) yeah, it's fun to look at the first client sketch but anyway for me it is much easier to see something rather to read the text explanation. I don't know why. Maybe I am more visual person...
