The iF international design award for young designers has recently been presented by Germany’s Hansgrohe SE. 493 concepts entered the competition with 165 making it into the Final Round. The motto this year: “Future Living: Innovative Forms of Using Water in Tomorrow’s Kitchen”.

Five innovative ideas convinced the jury of experts and were awarded the coveted Hansgrohe Design Prize 2017 by iF.

Jan Heisterhagen, Vice President of Product Management at Hansgrohe SE, was very enthusiastic about the achievements of the young designers:

“It is impressive how creative the young, international students approached this year’s topic. The numerous submissions and inspiring winning concepts clearly show that the innovation potential for kitchen faucets and sinks is far from exhausted […] With the’ Hansgrohe Design Prize by iF’ we would like to support the next generation and offer young design talents a platform for the presentation of their ideas and concepts on the subject of water.”

Chinese universities and students, in particular, showed a high level of innovation and absolutely ingenious solutions to kitchen sinks.

The ‘Clean Cut Cook’ design was the most futuristic concept that combines a prep station, cooking hob and sink.

Thanks to a flexible surface you would be able to decide what to do next in your kitchen. The material is a real shape-shifter letting you clean vegetables, then slice and dice them on a chopping board, only to cook the veggies afterward. Sinks with an appropriate capacity will automatically be selected according to requirements and eliminate the need for almost everything else in the kitchen.

The sink is so easy to use and simplified that all operation become safer and more fun. This sophisticated idea makes it possible to separate the sink from the worktop without the need for different appliances and if you don’t use it, the beautiful sink could also become a decorative bowl, with the water supply hidden in the rim.
