RE: Black Swans - Schwarze Schwäne

in #deutsch4 years ago

Hello,
A brilliant blog, a pleasure to read. Of course, it does agree closely with my worldview :))
I've long been intrigued by the short-sightedness of leaders who embark on war adventure. There is no security in war, for anyone. No telling the outcome, nor the way in which casualties will flow. History has so many examples: WWI and the Russian Revolution. WWII and the reorganization of the global map (with the decline of colonialism). The Vietnam War and the failure of two American presidencies (Johnson and Nixon).
I do agree that there is a synergy between at least three elements in U. S. society right now: Coronavirus, George Ferguson and Donald Trump. As a history hobbyist, I feel less secure about the outcome than many of my compatriots do. There were so many cultural/economic/societal antagonists before the current crises.
Well, you see, you did trigger a thought stream. It's a really good blog that can do that :)
Regards,
AG

Thanks a lot!
Who is George Ferguson?

Oh dear. What I did there was connect two incidents--the killing of George Floyd and the killing of Michael Brown. These two events have so much in common, as to the nature of the events and their consequence. After the Brown killing (by a police officer,) there were massive protests in Ferguson, MO.
The Brown and Floyd deaths are closely related in the narrative about racial and civil justice in the U.S. Somewhere in my subconscious these events were conflated.

Sorry to cloud the issue.
