It's not that I want things under my control...it's just that I don't stress over what I cannot control.
Years ago, I worked at a school for depressed adolescents. Many came from difficult backgrounds. We couldn't do anything to change those events--the students couldn't do anything to change those events. But I remember the founder of the school used to say, maybe you can't change what happens to you, but you can change the way you respond to it.
That's all I meant.
If someone is cruel to me, I can't change them, but I can change the way I feel about the cruelty. And learning from nature...that's a choice you make. There are many people who would not even notice the birds. But you did, and you responded. The birds didn't change. You did.
