Well this is it will be nice if more people will do that. But the big issue with wordpress has become the security issues with all the modules. You must have the chance that all modules will run with the next version of wp and also they will not have big security issues.
I had a client with a wordpress website that was from 2-3 years ago and it was full of spam / vi*uses because of an old comments plugin that helped that...
I told him that was safer to make a brand new website than to try to repair the old one...
So, you can add as advice, less plugins/modules = better security.
