JupyterLab in open beta testing

in #dev6 years ago

If you do Python development, you have likely used and fallen in love with Jupyter Notebooks.

Jupyter Notebook allows you to do interactive development with epic efficiency. Primarily used for machine and deep learning, it is still very handy for other projects. I use it a lot to analyze the Steem blockchain and interactively query data.

JupyterLab is a rework of Jupyter Notebook with more features like text editor support, data file viewers, tabbed work area, and more.

I played around with JupyterLab really early in development and it was a really nice improvement over Jupyter Notebooks but never made the switch. That was probably a year ago, so the improvements will likely be really impressive.

Installation is super easy, just use:

pip install jupyterlab

You do need to have Jupyter Notebooks installed as it does build on top of it.

JupyterLab supports notebooks so you can easily reuse your existing notebooks.

You can find more information about the project by reading the announcement post at Jupyter Blog.

I'm not a programmer but I did some python in a genetics class, its my only street cred. I feel like not being able to program is the equivalent to being illiterate a hundred years ago. Its the biggest whole in my understanding that I'm aware of :/

This looks awesome. I use ipython notebooks all the time but hadn’t heard of this. Will definitely be checking it out today.
