Today I went over to Northumbria University in Newcastle upon Tyne, to Deliver a presentation on my career, the cloud, DevOps, blockchain, and EOS.
With blockchain being such a new technology, the students were particularly interested in how we use it at @BlockMatrix. It was quite a fun lecture with lots of student interaction and questions.
I was keen to tell them how we support EOS in the cloud, and how we are one of only a few companies to bring that innovative cloud automation and DevOps to EOS.
Some of the questions I was asked include:
What challenges have you had to overcome?
My first response, the list is endless! haha. Joking aside, I went into how EOS is the first dPOS mainnet and there was a large learning curve. Because EOS is relatively new there is constant upgrades and fixes, and with our DevOps architecture in place it allows us to be fully assured before deploying the latest solution to live. What automation technologies do you use?
We use a wide selection of vendor-agnostic DevOps tooling which includes; Ansible, Packer, Test-Kitchen, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform. How long did it take?
It took us around 4-5 months to create a well architected, immutable, fully automated end to end, secure solution.
Which led me on to tell them that, the 5 months of DevOps development has led us to be able to completely re-create our whole multiple cloud environment set up in as little as 2 hours, ranging from account creation, IAM, pipelines, and application build & deployment.
