A diode is an important electronic component used for controlling the direction of current. In this post, I will show how to test a diode using a digital multimeter.

First, set the multimeter to diode-test mode. Place the red probe on the anode and the black probe on the cathode. A normal silicon diode usually shows a forward voltage around 0.5â0.7V.

Now reverse the probes. The multimeter should normally show OL or no conduction.
