Discipline: A Cure to Writer's Block

in #discipline2 months ago

In the last blog, I talked about writer's block as one of the numerous challenges content writers face on a daily basis. I also mentioned that bad reviews from engagers and the audience are factors leading to content writers experiencing writer's block.

Additionally, I also talked about how stress can contribute to content writers being on a total shutdown and unable to be productive for days or even for a longer period of time. Here is the link to the article.

Now, talking about how some content writers have been able to make a name for themselves despite all the challenges in the profession. Having read so many books about successful content writers and other successful men and women in various fields, I have come to the conclusion that there is only one key thing that has helped them succeed, which is "discipline".

Discipline in this context doesn't just imply knowing what to do, at what time to do it, and when to do it, which of course is very necessary because as a content writer or any other worker in a different profession, if you don't know when to complete your tasks and how to manage your time effectively, you're setting yourself up for failure.

However, being disciplined also involves several aspects, such as developing a thick skin to bad reviews and harsh criticism. How?

Generally, when individuals keep getting bad reviews about their products or services, it is human nature to feel bad about it, but a disciplined individual will not allow such negativity to get the best out of them. Instead, such a person strives to work hard and make the necessary adjustments while bearing in mind that he or she cannot please every single person on this planet.

One thing I have come to discover is that for reasons I cannot comprehend, some people love to bring others down, hence the hate comments, side talks, and various reactions. For example, the female basketball player Angel Reese has been a victim of such behavior. I have watched different games she played, and there is no doubt that she is skilled at what she does, even though she can go overboard sometimes when infuriated. But then, the amount of hate comments and demeaning remarks from people is still what I don't get and why? And it cannot be far from the truth that some people just don't like seeing others' progress, maybe due to race or language.

What about having a set schedule and goals and strictly sticking to them, which of course will lead to steady progress and goals? It is the same quality "discipline" that has helped a lot of successful people to set goals, plans, and routines to be able to achieve set goals. Sometimes, when people face opposition or challenges at work, the tendency to abandon tasks and procrastinate is high. However, discipline helps individuals push through or try new approaches to get the work done. A disciplined person does not give up at the first try.

Additionally, having this quality helps us develop self-control and healthy habits, which could positively impact one's job. Self-control helps an individual remain calm, not overreact, and know how to react in bad situations. It also helps an individual keep emotions in check and manage impulses. A content writer who regularly responds to bad reviews in a bad way and argues with his audience and engages all the time is prone to internet trolling. Over time, his or her audience will constantly bully the individual and will always find faults in each and every one of the writer's blogs in order to bring him or her down. However, developing self-control will prevent that.

Talking about some habits that could have an impact on one's job, feeding habits are one such example. A lot of people don't know this, but one's eating habits can equally affect his or her productivity. For example, you are supposed to get up early in the morning, attend to a few chores, and get ready to head out, but because you ate a very heavy meal last night, you can barely get out of bed, let alone prepare for work. Or you eventually get to the workplace, but because you ate a certain meal or overate, you can barely concentrate to get things done.

Personally, some meals make me feel very weak and tired. For example, pap usually makes me feel very heavy, sleepy, and tired after eating it. Sometimes, I make a joke out of it by telling my sister that if I want to be unproductive for a day, I'll simply eat pap. However, being disciplined helps us cultivate healthy eating habits, even if it means changing eating patterns. Funny enough, this will not only benefit us in our profession but also health-wise.

In summary, every good quality that has helped great men and women succeed is connected with discipline. Discipline has not only helped successful content creators but also other successful people in various fields. And I guess this blog is a wake-up call to get our act together.
