Unfortunately, yes, and I'm not surprised. Schools teach us a lot of stories that are supposed to have happened, but that most likely have nothing to do with reality.
With respect to the United Kingdom it does not surprise me either, lately I have seen a strong historical pseudorevisionism that seeks to place the British Empire as "a good empire", forgetting as always the truth.
