A day in the life of a DIYer, cook, biker, you name me :)

in #diy2 years ago

FYI, people call me Orestis. That's how my parents improvised when they baptised me. Not bad at all, otherwise I'd have one of the most common Hellenic names by one of the most common ways - inherited from my grandfather.

So, as common and casual as it gets, I wake up, make myself some breakfast and check my messages. But when I'm done things go far from common and casual. Mission: Make a new DIY motorcycle mount for my action cam. The previous one was also sort of DIY but now I came up with a better idea which, if all go well, it will be simpler and sturdier.

Wanna guess what this is?

It's a chainsaw handle. How will it fit the plans? Wait for it. I chose it mainly because of its material (aluminium=light). And because I didn't find a plastic piece as long and sturdy in "my stock".

Ladies and gents, time to meet my angle grinder:

Like any of its comrades eats up aluminum stuff like knife cuts butter:

I could also have said "like hunger cuts an empty stomach" as right now I am a little beyond hungry after all this time I've spent looking for the right parts and all the trial and error involved. The problem is that it's also me the one who has to cook so...pause DIY, press play on COOK 🙂:

You already got the spoiler of what I'll do right? If you don't follow me then maybe not so yep, one more pizza is on the way. You may wonder why the F I put myself in a trouble of doing this instead of something easier but I am a little perversely dedicated when it comes to food regardless the conditions 🙂 All of my ex girlfriends failed to understand how I manage to stay slim being such a foodie.

Time for my own extra virgin and extra beloved olive oil to play its role. I just love to look at its pristine colour:

Deserves a better photo but I am in a crazy rush. Here's the mix with some water, salt and pepper:

After some treatment I get it all down to this ball:

Wish I had time to let this take a rest first but I have none so I proceed:

Some goat cheese from Crete always puts a smile on my face post cooking:

Not that the spinach I grow at my balcony in Athens doesn't:

Who wants some boiled ham?

Mushrooms, we all love them right?

For the grand finale I decided to improvise so this is the first time I grind potato on the top of a pizza:
DSC_0015.JPG

I know I shouldn't risk improvising hungry as I am but what would be life without any risks at all? Besides, that's a first world risk anyway 🙂

Not that it's all in the oven I have to go back to DIYing. Looks like the part I cut before will do the job:

Left side of it you can see the leftovers of my previous mount (half of it more or less) so you can already get an idea of how simpler and sturdier this one is ambitious to be. Of course I still have to cut it a bit more and paint it so it blends in with my black bike instead of looking as an irrelevant piece from the 70s. Yes, it's that old. This thing reads "Made in West Germany" so that gives you an idea if you have elementary knowledge of European History 🙂

During the time I spent with more trial and error my pizza must be ready so I go back to the oven and check things out. I am sorry to see it dryer than I wanted but you can't nail all things at the same time so here's my dry but still tasty pizza:

Some say "happiness starts from the stomach" and I am one of them. With a full one I go back to work. Getting closer to the desired results:

Have you noticed that the thread where the camera screws in is white? I have covered it in Teflon. The reason is that I want to pan the camera left and right while riding while being able to keep her at various angles so the teflon applies some resistance to keep her in place.

Time to improve the optics a bit. Here's a paint stand I made on the spot for this piece:

Now it's less visible though obviously it still looks far from original equipment:

I also put this round bump sticker to make it a little safer in case of collision:

I'm happy with it so far but have to try it on a longer route than just around the block whenever I find time.

As I start putting my tools and parts back to where they should if I want to call my place tidy this insect lands on my camera with no intentions to leave:

Any idea what this guy is? Please let me know in the comments:

Hey, this was a cool half of a day. Much better than my half of a day hahaha.

Have no clue what the little guy is... I guess that a winged insect with antennas would not be a great answer haha 😁

Maybe it's an unknown insect that I should baptise "Actionious Camerous" 😂
Nice to see you, have a nice day!

Actionious Camerous hahaha, and that's how a new species was discovered.
Well, the insect is maybe not new, but his name 😂

Potato on pizza.. that's new :D Must be tasty though.

I've put potato on pizza before but never grinded. Tasty indeed!
