Building your own doors can seem intimidating, but with a little patience, this can be a very rewarding project. We love the rustic look of mountain cabins and our home reflects this!
This door was made out of Douglas Fir 2x6 T&G. I used 1x2 bar stock steel for the cross braces over top of 1x6 pine boards. The door was finished with one coat of teak oil and then coated with seven coats of satin water based outdoor UV varnish, and finished with one coat of semi gloss polyurethane. The only sections I used glue on were the cross braces. I then counter sank screws and capped them with decorative upholstery tacks that were glued down. The bar stock has black sheet metal screws painted for that rustic look, all metal was outdoor primed before painting.
This is a 38 inch HEAVY door. It is hung with native Sitka Spruce jams with four hinges using 3 inch screws sunk into the studs for strength.

Nice. Have you built the place from scratch or are you just renovating it?
I'm thinking of taking the back doors off my campervan and replacing with some nice wooden cladding and a door similar to yours, it'll have to be a lot lighter though!
I have built from scratch before, but on this house it’s both. I added on to the great room and it is a complete room by room remodel.
