Accidental Solstice Apocalypse Meal: cooked dried spaghetti with raw grated carrot etc.
A funny thing happened on the way home from work: an apocalypse broke out, so I disappeared into the woods to cook my evening meal.
Thankfully, it wasn't THE apocalypse, so by the time I'd eaten it, and drank a few beers, the shit had passed, so I was able to return home, with only minor lacerations, and a full dose of Vitamin A.
The Apocalypse was actually most fortuitous: by extreme coincidence I just happened to have in my bag all of the ingredients I needed to make my entry to @canadianrenegade’s ‘prepper challenge’...I got dried spaghetti and carrot as my two options (Original post - here - https://steemit.com/preppercookoff/@canadianrenegade/prepper-cook-off-challenge-2-over-38-steem-in-prizes) - and I added cashew nuts as my third item.
Also fortuitously, I just happened to have a full range of camping cook gear and video cameras in my bag, which was handy.
Given the apocalyptic situation, I decided it expedient to keep my meal simple:
Ingredients:
Dried spaghetti
Water
Carrot
Cashew nuts
Salt
Chilli flakes
Cooking and eating gear:
MSR pocket rocket II stove with fuel
Fire lighter
Titanium Pot
Nalgene water bottle (for carrying water)
Grater
Fork
Instructions:
Boil pan of water
Cook spaghetti for amount of time as directed on packet
Drain
Add in raw grated carrot and cashew nuts
Sprinkle with chilli flakes and salt
Eat
Tasting Notes
It’s fucking spaghetti and raw grated carrot and cashew nuts with salt and chilli flakes.
General Apocalypse advice:
Head to the woods and just chillax.
My video is at DLive
I laughed! But at least you were in a nice environment and missed the apocalypse.
I actually quite enjoyed myself... Funny thing is I must've run around the tracks through that piece of woodland on my way back from work 100 times, but never come across that little shelter, never having actually been into said woodland.
Nice touch with the video. Parts of it were pure comedic gold! Did you build that shelter yourself?
Thanks for the entry!
Thanks!
I did maybe tell a little white lie about the shelter, it was already there, I just stumbled across it, quite handy really!
Ahahaha your tasting notes!!!!! Good one. Love your little cooking set up. Lucky you had your camera gear on you 🤣😉 Watching you eat the spag was delightful.
I always wonder if id carry a grater with me in my bug out bag.
Thanks, I seem to remember there were brownie points for showing yourself eating it. TBH I'm not sure I wanted that locked into the blockhain for ever, but I couldn't make @DTube work, so I guess it will be now.
Most bug out pack advice sites miss out the grater for some reason, personally I think it's ESSENTIAL.
I used one too hahaha...maybe a flat one would be more space economical... and you could grate someone's face in an attack...
Thankfully the local kids must have been playing elsewhere, so I didn't need to fall back on the grater this time!
