Actually the curation reward system is quite complex. Early voters get a higher % of the reward, but if the upvote is done just after post is published, most of the reward for that vote would actually go to the post author. Technically the best moment to vote is when the post is at least 30 minutes old and you are among the first voters. This is likely never going to be the case for a low value post at payout though...
Sadly not, the curation rewards ramps up during the first 30 minutes after the post is published. Voting just after the post is up will get you close to no reward. This is done to avoid bots from immediately voting everything just to get the max reward possible. My advise is.... upvote post when you really like them, when you see them.
Until you get more SP in your account you will not receive any significant curation awards. It doesn't matter how big the person you are voting on is because its your voting power that determines your curation award. This is also why whales take large curation awards from all their bid-bot votes.
The bots get bigger curation rewards because its proportional to the vote value. I assume you have low voting power... your curation award is based on the vote value you give with your upvote which is probably only $0.01. The Steem reward system doesn't pay at 0.0001 SP the minimum payout is .001 SP which is more than 25% of $0.01. The bots are collecting curation rewards on every upvote regardless of timing however the payout percentages are adjusted depending on timing between 15-25%.
and what about 25%*0.56 SBD for curators ?
Don't curators get 25% if they upvote in the first 30 minutes or am i mistaken? I rarely get curation rewards and they are like 0.0001 SP

So if i see one of the big people i follow posting like 2-3 mins ago and i upvote it i might get better post rewards? :)
