Police officer suspected in torture and death of beloved dog mascot in Chiang Mai

in #dogs4 years ago (edited)

The dog's name was "Tia" which means "shorty" in Thai and this animal, while homeless was a cherished part of the Chiang Mai University Campus.

"Tia" could be found at random locations all around the Chiang Mai campus and was a bit of a celebrity because of his very friendly nature and constantly wagging tail. All students pitched in to look after Tia and to suggest that he never had an empty belly would be an understatement. He had a collar with his name on it, and would get a bit of everyone's lunch if he wanted it, it was just impossible to say no to those eyes.

Tia was beloved by everyone on campus and would routinely accept rides on motorbikes just for the company, not because he actually needed to go anywhere. He would regularly participate in activities including sports and ceremonies of all types.

Tia had top notch medical care provided by donations from faculty and staff and didn't seem a bother to anyone at all. So why is it that someone would kidnap and murder such a loving creature.

Tia's FB page currently has 220,000 members and a call to justice on a police officer, who has actually achieved the rank of corporal is the suspect and his name has not been revealed. The charges against him are currently simply burglary but various activist groups (including ours) are pushing to have animal cruelty charges brought against this terrible human being as well.

The translation of the Thai above is "Do you have to go Tia?" and Tia turns around and says "yes, i'm already gone."

It brings tears to my eyes right now as I type this to think about the kind of monster that would do something like this and I sincerely hope that if the CCTV footage that they claim to have shows that the corporal actually did intentionally kill this kind and loving creature the the punishment is swift and harsh. There are at least 220,000 voices that are not simply going to allow this to get swept under the rug, which is frequently what happens when police commit crimes in this country.

I hope you will join us in demanding justice for this horrible act.

This type of thing is disgusting and the worst kind of offence. Most places have some dog as their mascot but not are all homeless. We had on that used to arrive at school and stay the entire day as he got plenty of food from the kids. It was so bad that the headmaster asked people please not to feed him as he will not understand during the school holidays where everyone and his food has gone.

truly tragic. I joined the FB watchdog site as well. Let's hope they follow up

yes i hope so too, most of what that group posts is in Thai so it isn't always easy for me to get the news. I can read some thai but not all of it

oh this is horrible. I do hope they convict the guy, well, if he did it of course.
