Week 39 (May 2019)

Welcome to Recent Developments. In this series I post about domain names that sold recently and have since become developed into an actual website. In other words, this is a focus on end user sales and what they are doing with their recent domain purchase!

End user info in the domain name industry can be extremely valuable. You can learn a lot from this type of data, because it shows you what an end user price was for a particular domain name. Hopefully you can apply that knowledge to your own domain investing both on the buy as well as the sale side. If you know what people are willing to pay for a domain it can help you price your domains right to sell.

On top of all that, it's fun to see what's new on the web!

Domains Recently Developed

I had a suggestion the other day from @slingshot to write up a post about crypto related domains in the market. I like this idea and will be thinking it over some in the next few days to see what I can put together. There are a ton of crypto related domains that sell everyday and a lot sitting for sale. The domain industry moves with trends and in fact crypto related domains were being registered and picked up years before mainstream caught onto crypto. Investors are always looking for the next big thing! Anyway, I'll be looking more into this idea and hopefully will have a unique post soon about crypto related domains. Thanks to @slingshot for the idea!

Let's have a look at these recent developments.

ZSecurity.com

The first domain is ZSecurity.com. This domain sold for $3,900 at GoDaddy on April 4th, 2019. The domain redirects to zsecurity.org and the site is offering ethical hacking courses and tutorials... interesting.

As far as the domain is concerned I like it. Domains starting with the letter 'Z' are sometimes good brands. I myself have sold a brandable 'z' related domain. This is also a nice additional domain to have for this organization.

Globalink.org

Next we have Globalink.org. This domain sold for $1,050 at GoDaddy on April 4th, 2019. The site is apparently a tobacco control and research site that looks rather dated... In fact according to archive.org this is the same site that was on the domain over 10 years ago! What does all this mean? What's likely happened here is we have a site that let their domain expire and drop! They then had to bid and win back their domain at auction for a premium! This happens more often than you might think to established websites and companies... it's like forgetting to pay your rent. OOPS!!!

As for the domain, I don't really like it. When I read it I see "Global Ink" and I don't see how that is a good keyword combination for a tobacco control related organization. If they're going for "Global Link" then they are missing a letter. Also, it's a 2 word .org with a missing letter! You could do better in my opinion. This is not a domain I would buy.

T.win

Finally, we have T.win. This gTLD domain sold for a whopping $22,500 at Sedo on April 5th, 2019. The domain redirects to Twin.com which is a large online casino and gambling site.

It's a nice domain hack for twin.com but there's no doubt they'll be sticking with the .com. I like that it puts more emphasis on the word, "win" and it's a casino site. All in all it's an alright domain for them, but I can't imagine spending 5 figures on a .win like this.

Anyway, that concludes this edition of Recent Developments.

Thanks @plaid! I look forward to seeing what you find out in the wild.

With domains there's a lot to dig into but there are always hidden gems ready to be unearthed. It's possible to find decent domains still in any category, including crypto related. I'll keep you posted. 😎

Well, clearly you dig better than others @plaid. I'm sure you will unearth some gold. Keep me posted.
