Spurred by the example of our Founders such as Muhammad Ali, Mia Hamm, and Andre Agassi, AFH has created more than 2,000 connections between athletes and charities across many causes since our inception 13 years ago.
Whether you donate $5 or $500, every dollar helps Athletes for Hope mobilize athletes in support of the following programs:
AFH FIT
Over the last 30 years in the U.S., childhood obesity rates have tripled. To address this critical issue, Athletes for Hope created a sports-based character development program called AFH FIT, designed to teach leadership skills and empower underserved youth to become more physically active. Over the past year, AFH facilitated nearly 200 visits in which college, professional, and Olympic athletes visited and inspired children at schools, after school programs, and running clubs, reaching over 35,000 kids!
AFH University (AFH U)
During the 2019-2020 school year, over 3,000 college athletes on 105 sports teams from 11 universities throughout the U.S. have participated in the AFH University program. AFH U facilitates dialogue about the role that college athletes play in their communities through social impact workshops and then connects those athletes to impactful community service opportunities. This year alone, AFH U athletes have impacted over 13,600 people, including over 9,000 children who were positively impacted through 61 community partners from across many different causes.
Gender Equality Initiative
At Athletes for Hope, we believe all humans deserve the opportunity to define their future and pursue their dreams, regardless of gender. We move gender equality forward through thought leadership activities like co-hosting an Equality Summit at FIFA Women's World Cup, virtual visits where athletes Skype into classrooms around the world to inspire and provide wisdom for the next generation, and in person visits in which college, professional and Olympic female athletes demonstrate that there is a bright future for all girls, regardless of the professional path they choose to pursue.
