Maybe it's like a hazing process. When you try to join a fraternity they are not nice to the applicant, they put them through hell and make them do a whole bunch of humiliating things until they prove they are up to the task.

On Hive we should reconsider the behavior of the witnesses, for example on Steem (yes I know it's a dirty word) a lot of witnesses redistribute either in liquid or in votes to those who support them.

My account being of little value I don't see the point of securing it further, but most large accounts do so by choosing a secondary account as "account recovery". They don't keep the account creator.
Regarding Steem's witnesses, I don't see any corruption in sharing a part of their income with those who contribute with their vote, there is a witness here on Hive which does that, @earn.hive.
If there was more sharing and less hostility (I'm talking about downvotes) Hive would be much better off.

For earn.hive account - yes, it's pure vote buying, it is called a corruption. And yes, I already know from earlier message that you don't see any corruption in it. That's the problem.
Downvotes are not hostility, it's integral part of reward distribution.
