RE: Posts for downvoted for the first time

in #downvote4 months ago

Thank you for not freaking out because I downvoted this post.

I want to let you know it is really appreciated; not an easy way to react so kudos to you.

I think a post like this should not get rewards. To me, this post is mainly a call to action versus content you enjoy writing to provide value to the network. I say this because the content of this post is inconsistent with what you usually post.

When writing call to action posts, burning posts or declining rewards is always an option. I would normally recommend doing a burn post vs declining rewards so at least curators get rewards. Some upvotes are automated so this saves these folks that curated you some pain.

That being said, I will not tell you what to do and if you want to post content like this for rewards no one can stop you. BTW, I only bring all this up because I think a lot of people do not even realize they can burn posts but still give rewards to curators.

Also just a random thing, pinging large accounts is generally not good form unless you want them to get involved in what you are doing (even if you want them involved it usually does not work out the way most people want it to). If you look at who downvoted you, the adm account says to contact Hivewatchers.

Downvoting was intended to be innocuous but right now it appears like it is not. This has created a weird world where downvoting is mainly used to stop "abuse" of the reward pool.

Unfortunately, there is not a manual for what "abuse" even means on HIVE and really it comes down to the downvoters opinion on if the reward pool is being allocated in the chain's best interest; this is inherently subjective and is not consistent between the different accounts that downvote. That being said, the people who downvote you are usually real people with feelings. Usually when people get downvoted their gut reaction is to ramp up the temperature and create a lot of friction. This gut reaction does irritate people sometimes and sometimes even people who do "anti abuse" regularly are having a bad day. If you get put on a down vote list, (I do not run downvote lists by the way), it is usually more productive to try to deescalate; I could be wrong, just my opinion. 🤷‍♂

I am a bit of a contrarian and wanted to try something new today; people want me to say why I downvote things but they do not care if I say why I upvote things. I want to tell you why I decided to give this comment today if you do not mind. I gave your comment a 100% upvote because you did something that is irregular and hard to do.

You told me thanks AFTER I downvoted your post. I don't get this very often and you might as well have bought me a lambo or something... I mean I would prob take the lambo before a thanks but still LOL 🤣

You have 2 different ways to view your situation:

1). One way to view it is, you are being targeted because you are a small account and all these big accounts are punching down.

My Answer - No one is getting punched and downvotes is only a disagreement of rewards. If you are a small account you are more likely to get downvoted though because this is a stake weight based chain and stake weight does matter on HIVE.

2). One way to view it is, you had the opportunity to meet interesting people and get some education on how the reward pool works.

My Answer - This 2nd way seems a more productive way to approach it, in my opinion, but that is really up to you.

If you want to approach things with the 2nd way there is a post you may want to reference regarding KE https://peakd.com/hive-180505/@azircon/ke-ratio-a-personal-perspective

If your KE gets "too high" some people will downvote you. I downvote based on KE 10 or higher right now but that number may change. (Could go up or down I have no idea).

Happy New Year and good luck on HIVE!

Thanks for the lengthy explaination (and the 100% upvote). Like ive said, this is the first ever time I got downvoted in 5 plus years in Hive (after Steemit) and Ive posted something really 'less effort' than this but still got upvoted.

That is how I got surprised by this sudden downvote. But like Hivewatcher said, it was about the authentification I have forgotten to do in May last year hence the black list and then downvote. I got unbanned now and have do the fix required on my FB profile page and I think its done for now.

this is the first ever time I got downvoted in 5 plus years in Hive (after Steemit) and Ive posted something really 'less effort' than this but still got upvoted.

Five years is a long time. I have a hard time speaking to Steem because I was never around then.

I think a lot of people post and dump all their rewards. One of the many reasons HIVE price is low right now. Even if people dumping rewards is not the only reason HIVE price is down, more Hivians are a lot more sensitive about the reward pool than when Steem was around it seems. There are other people who downvote besides HW and people have different reasons for why they downvote. That is hard pill for some people to swallow but that is just where we are right now. HIVE changes a lot so I am assuming most of this stuff will change in some capacity eventually.

Cheers!
