Would You Use Facebook's Whatsapp Coin?

Let's face it would be foolish to underestimate any serious attempt from Facebook into the realm of cryptocurrencies. Infact, it's a known fact that they have a blockchain team that's been working on these lines for a considerable period of time.

According to the newest reports in the NYTimes Facebook has approached exchanges as well.

The Facebook project is far enough along that the social networking giant has held conversations with cryptocurrency exchanges about selling the Facebook coin to consumers, said four people briefed on the negotiations.

Facebook has more than 50 engineers working on its project, three people familiar with the effort said. An industry website, The Block, has been keeping track of the steady flow of new job listings for the Facebook project.

The Facebook effort, which is being run by a former president of PayPal, David Marcus, started last year after Telegram raised an eye-popping $1.7 billion to fund its cryptocurrency project.

Whatsapp payments has shown a decent growth with over 1 million users testing the payments feature in India. But that's a small number compared to 200 million users who use Whatsapp messaging features in India. Even that figure feels like a drop in the bucket consider overing 1.5 billion people use the app everyday.

Once it's fully rolled out and marketed the number of users will increase tremendously and that's a huge market for Facebook and a potential growth area as well.

Some users hate FB and everything about it but they represent a tiny segment but the mainstream appreciate both Facebook and Whatsapp and that's largely a reason why a cryptocurrency initiative from Facebook has a potential for being successful.

If you want the latest update on this read the full article. Meanwhile let's take a vote on what Steemians feel about this. All things considered, 'Will you use a Whatsapp coin if it becomes true?'

When f-c-book-coin comes out, i will probably use it, just like tether or ripple. It is a method to do certain things efficiently.

Such as, you want to send money to your sister/friend/person going into chemo. It will be an easy path to get them the money.

Of course, if they could set up a litecoin wallet, that would be so much easier. But, we all know that ain't going to be 100% for a long while.

I will never leave any sizeable amounts in f-c-book. I don't trust them at all.

I don't like Facebook, and don't really trust them with any thing they might do, but the main reason for not trying a Whatsapp coin is, it won't be decentralized, either. That means less potential for privacy and security. It's one thing to have a cryptocurrency—it's quite another to have one that meets all the criteria that makes it worthwhile.

Even so, it's almost a given that if Facebook is behind it, it will receive huge growth by those who don't know better, don't care, or simply enjoy the convenience no matter the societal cost.

Just because they are going to be eaten by all the bots we all know of... =)

Sure, I hate Facebook, but the reality of why I won't use the Whatsapp coin is simply because I don't use Whatsapp. But, as a crypto-enthusiast, I am nonetheless interested in seeing how everything progresses from here...

I'd sell it for better tokens :)

I use FB and Whatsapp and all my friends do it too. So I might use the token if it held stable value and made transactions easier/quicker or cheaper perhaps or atleast give it a test run at the very least.

Its a no for me. Who cares about another stable coin. The only reason it would be of interest is if using the coin offered a significant % off on something Id like to buy then I might move some profits into the coin on the next bull run.

Another stable coin from another company.

And if the future was simply about companies creating fractional stable coins instead of governments?

Not super excited at the moment. So it's a NO for me.

Yes for sure as though whatever we may say that steemit is better than Facebook but still we can't neglect the mass adoption which Facebook is already having and for sure if they enter it will be going to be huge.

Nope the last thing we need to do is give corporations even more power

Yes if it is properly pegged and it allows me to make very fast and near fee-less transactions to my many friends all around the world.

Good utility beats anything.
I wouldn't "invest" in it though.

  • Yes

No and I stopped to use Facebook over a year ago.

You need to post from https://dpoll.xyz/detail/@firepower/would-you-use-facebooks-whatsapp-coin/ for your vote to count. Or at least use the correct format:

  - No

But I'm not sure that this would work or if dpoll.xyz has a database to keep track of the votes.
