What is Balefire? (Ca. 1111)

One fateful day, a great evil arose in the city of Theramore. A dark sorcerer named Malgus had unleashed a horde of monstrous creatures upon the unsuspecting inhabitants, threatening to plunge the entire realm into chaos. The people of Theramore, desperate and afraid, sought help from Cofeo and her order of powerful magic wielders.

Recognizing the magnitude of the threat, Cofeo decided to take drastic action. She knew that unleashing a spell as potent as Balefire would come at a tremendous cost, but the safety of the realm and its innocent people was paramount. Balefire was a spell that held immense power—it could unravel the very fabric of time and remove anything struck by its rays entirely from the timeline.

Cofeo ventured to the outskirts of Theramore, standing tall atop a hill with her staff raised high. The air crackled with magic as the elf began to channel potent magical energies. Her eyes glowed with an otherworldly light as she focused all her knowledge and strength into this one spell.

With a final, resolute incantation, Cofeo released the Balefire spell. A brilliant beam of pure, searing energy shot forth from her hands, slicing through the sky like a celestial lance. The ray descended upon Theramore, and as it made contact, unleashed an explosion of magical fury which engulfed the entire city.

In an instant, the landscape was transformed. Buildings crumbled into dust, and the once-thriving city was reduced to ruins. But the power of Balefire did not stop there; it was a spell that transcended time itself. Everything struck by the rays—Malgus, his creatures, and even the memories of the city itself—vanished from the annals of history.

The aftermath was eerie. The city of Theramore was gone, and its existence became an enigma lost to the ages. The people of the realm, though grateful for their safety, were perplexed by the absence of Theramore from their collective memory. Only a few, like Cofeo and her order, retained any recollection of the city's existence.

As for Cofeo, the casting of Balefire came with a heavy burden. The immense energies required to wield such power left her physically and emotionally drained. She knew that meddling with time had grave consequences, and she grappled with the moral implications of these actions.

From that day on, Cofeo became a recluse, withdrawing from the world and delving deeper into the study of magic and time. She sought understanding and redemption for this choice, hoping to find a way to mend the fabric of reality she had torn asunder.

Shortly thereafter, Cofeo was sentenced to exile from Galeal by the High Magistrate of the elven courts. Balefire became a legend whispered by storytellers in hushed tones, and eventually faded into myth and was forgotten. The destruction served as a reminder of the delicate balance between wielding great power and bearing the weight of the consequences that accompanied it. And so, while Cofeo's name was removed from the history books, her actions became synonymous with both awe and caution, forever etched into the annals of history and myth in that magical realm.

Better to get in the habit now, than to take the flags and bent feelers later, imo.

Thanks for the heads up!
They are my own, though :P

Oh I get it! The second photo didn't work when I just uploaded it, the bottom was cut off, so how should I source it to myself?
