My Sketch: The Temple, Jerusalem
This is my artistic dream of the Temple as described in the Bible.
There were 2 temples in the Bible, no, it is not the Old Testament temple and the New Testament temple.
Time for a little history, if we can put a time frame for the Bible, Moses led the Exodus in 13-14 century BC.
David was around 1000 BC, Then Solomon his son built the First Temple.
The Temple was the unique icon for the Jewish faith, there was a tribe, the Levites, serving in the Temple, doing everything. And the people could only offer their sacrifice there, the only one place in the whole country. You can imagine how busy the Levites were.
That Temple was destructed by the Babylonians in 586-7 BC when they conquered the whole land and dent the entire population into exile. The Babylonian Empire was later replaced by the Persians.
Then under the Persians, the Jews were allowed to return to their homeland and also permitted to rebuild the Temple. This is the Second Temple.
Then at around Jesus' time, King Herod had a huge building project, to rebuild and enlarge the Temple. As this is really a "renovation" job, it never earned the name of a third temple. This temple was destroyed shortly by the Roman soldiers during a Jewish revolt in 70AD.
Some Jews now are hoping to build the Temple again, which will be the Third Temple.
I like your drawing - "artisitc dream". These sketches look really good.
Thank you :))
Always good to learn about Jerusalem's history.
It is a sad history, and it reflects in their music, swinging between melancholy and extreme joy.
