I'm @crissimoes and this is my eleventh post here on @dsound! I have really enjoyed doing these classes. I know it is not easy to learn this language, but I will try my best and make the classes very simple and easy to understand.
Let's go to the eleventh Portuguese class!
Today I wanna teach you how to talk about your profession and your job.
Let’s get started!
If you want to ask someone what their profession is you would say in a formal situation:
- Qual a sua profissão?
Or informal situation:
- Qual a tua profissão?
You can also say in a formal situation:
- O que faz profissionalmente?
Or informal situation:
- O que fazes profissionalmente?
Professions in portuguese usually have a masculine and a feminine form. And the feminine form usually ends with an “a”.
There’s just a couple exeptions we are going to take a look at today.
Now I’m going to tell you in portuguese the most common professions. In the first place I wanna tell you the masculine version and then the female version.
So let’s get started!
Ele é um programador/He is a computer programmer
And the female version:Ela é uma programadora/She is a computer programmer
Ele é um cozinheiro/He is a cook
And the female version is:Ela é uma cozinheira/ She is a cook
Ele é um fotógrafo/ He is a photographer
And the female version is:Ela é uma fotógrafa/ She is a photographer
Ele é um médico/ He is a doctor
And the female version is:Ela é uma médica/ She is a doctor
Ele é um professor/He is a teacher
And the female version is:Ela é uma professora/ She is a teacher
Ele é um engenheiro/ He is an engineer
And the female version is:Ela é uma engenheira/ She is an engineer
Ele é um investigador/He is a researcher
And the female version is:Ela é uma investigadora/ She is a researcher
Ele é um farmacêutico/He is a pharmacist
And the female version is:Ela é uma farmacêutica/ She is a pharmacist
Ele é um psicólogo/ He is a psycologist
And the female version is:Ela é uma psicóloga/She is a psycologist
Ele é um biólogo/He is a biologist
And the female version is:Ela é uma bióloga/She is a biologist
Ele é um jardineiro/ He is a gardener
And the female version is:Ela é uma jardineira/She is a gardener
Ele é um actor/ He is an actor
And the female version is:Ela é uma actriz/ She is an actress
Ele é um secretário/He is a secretary
And the female version is:Ela é uma secretária/She is a secretary
Ele é um advogado/He is a lawyer
And the female version is:Ela é uma advogada/She is a lawyer
Estou empregado/I’m employed
Female version:Estou empregada/ I’m employed
Estou desempregado/ I’m unemployed
Female version:Estou desempregada/I’m unemployed
Now just take a look at the exeptions:
- Ele é um polícia/ He is a police officer
And the female version is: - Ela é uma polícia/ She is a police officer
In this case the profession is the same in the bouth versions.
Just take a look of other exeptions
Ele é um jornalista/ He is a jornalist
And the female version is:Ela é uma jornalista/She is a jornalist
Ele é um cientista/ He is a cientist
And the female version is:Ela é uma cientista/ She is a cientist
Ele é um nutricionista/ He is a nutritionist
And the female version is:Ela é uma nutricionista/ She is a nutritionist
