gotye kinda deal- a song out of a sound design experiment

in #dsound6 years ago (edited)

wow, its been ages since I last posted something.

This instrumental is a bit unlike others, see the fact is , all the drums you're hearing in there aren't actually drums, rather they are carefully designed tones made to sound like drums.

Its a bit funny actually, see the drums are actually sound of hammers hitting a string, of wooden objects around the studio. If you're knowledgeable in music, then you'll know that native instruments make some of the finest plugins and samplers in the world.Their product, kontakt, is perhaps one of the most useful tool for any aspiring sound designer or music producer out there.

my drums for this track, quite interesting
I used a native instrument library called "the giant" a piano library that has a rather large tone on it. The magical aspect about it is that the library has two parts to it. The already big piano, and a cinematic version which takes things towards a mad max level of sound design.

It is with this tool, that I was able to carefully construct drums for this instrumental. By carefully removing all but the hammers, and playing with reverb, and playing with space and convolution, along of cause with some EQs and compression, I was able to create something quite nice.

The guitar is actually two guitar, playing at full pan hard left and right, both libraries gotten from kontakt. Its actually the strummed acoustics library, and the bass, which seems to be the only problem here, is gotten from ableton live "guitar and bass" pack.

Have a listen and give a review!
