This is an old ballad brought across the great ocean from Europe to the New World, then to the hills and hollows of Appalachia. Doc Watson learned the song from a relative, and he brought it out on a couple of his records. I learned it from someone who learned it from his records. So, I learned it from someone who learned it from Doc, who learned it from his relative, who learned the ballad orally from a long line of singers. That's what music should be.

@drkent when songs are passed down from singers to singers they must have a soul... I really like it. Helps me through this hard times.
Great story :) And thats indeed what music is about, learning and getting inspired by and from eachother. Thanks, it's a nice tune with a (for me) bit a country vide....riding on my horse in the dessert... A view for miles.....just listening to this great tune...
