Original Recorded Poem: "Macbeth"

in #dsound6 years ago

I wrote this sonnet on a plane over the Atlantic, after watching the recent film adaptation of Macbeth (usually when I get my movies in!). Literature has so much in the way of lessons and wisdom for us, and we often leave it in the story--whereas Shakespeare's brilliance lies precisely in his incisive view and explication of human nature.

Macbeth

Macbeth reveals the evil of the will
Infected by the vilest, bloody sin;
We hear iambic stutters as a shell
But all the blood of hist'ry is within.

The strength of man becomes the entry point
For wretchedness of every shape and kind;
He holds his office well but does anoint
Himself with frenzied knife and jagged mind.

From him we now must learn to stand against
The roaming, raging spirits of cold blood
Which seem inside of petty sins well-fenced,
But once indulged become a flagrant flood.

The littlest of lust becomes a door,
And dabbling leads to evil at the core.

-snaps fingers- heavy...
