I have decided to share my first collection of electronic music here on steemit. This is my first time sharing these pieces publicly, although most of them were composed some time ago. For many years, I had thought the bulk of this collection was lost to a hard drive failure. Years later I discovered a CD I had burned at some point before the hard drive crashed and forgotten about. It contained most, but not all, of the songs that were near completion at the time of the crash. Some of them could have used some more mixing in fl studio, which is no longer possible. But I am still happy to have them. I have since added two more tracks to the collection. The bulk of it was composed in 2005-ish and the two newer tracks in 2016. I used the ts404 Bassline Synthesizer plugin (which came standard with fl studio since it’s freeware fruityloops days) a whole lot on the album. Given that the ts404 is no longer available in fl studio, I had to mimic one using other oscillators and effects when I wrote the newer additions to the album.
The collection, as a whole, is meant to be at least somewhat cohesive and some of the voices and musical themes are present in multiple songs. I will be posting one song a time. I have decided to call the album Too Close to the Sun, which is a reference to the character Icarus from Greek mythology. Without further ado, here is the first song to the album…
Track 1: It used to be mine,
from Too Close to the Sun
Spoken word transcript:
Who am I
this isn’t me
isn’t who I am
not where I am supposed to be
Where’s my life? It used to be mine. Give it back.
Where’s my time? Give it back.
Instruments/Plugins
I believe I recall most of the plugins and voices from this piece, but it is possible that I have left some out or entered ones that weren’t there. I believe I used the following though:
- 3 maybe 4 ts404’s with ping pong delay
- 1 simsynth channel
- BooBass plugin
- Slayer guitar plugin
- Various drums from packs on whatever version of FL Studio I was using at the time.
- a 3xosc plugin
There may be a couple of other voices as well.
I hope you enjoyed. Thanks for listening.
Best wishes,
@veckinon

Woohoo. Thanks, @isaria and @minnowsupport!!
Also, I think I may have just accidentally flagged and then unflagged this post. Sorry!! I was on a tablet and was trying to swipe.
Cool, I especially like the drums, are you still busy with FL nowadays?
I do still use it. I plan on posting some newer stuff at some point too. Are you an FL studio fan?
No I never really got into it, but it seems like fun software. Am learning ableton atm, gotta make a choise to which DAW to use right :)
It seems a lot of people use ableton on here. I have used fl studio since it was fruity loops and just never really switched over. It seems like ableton could have some definite advantages for some applications though.
yes I see, well it might be that when using software less people use, you might come up with a sound that doesn't sound too much like the sounds produced by the software most used, but on the other hand, possibilities are kind of endless anyway, so I geuss most important is that you just know what you use well.
Really cool song. Enjoyed the synths and the cinematic vibe. Loved the slow buildup and when the drums and heavy guitars hit, boom sounds great. Thanks for posting.
Thanks. I am glad you enjoyed it. I plan on releasing the rest of the tracks on this album, one at a time, over the next week or two. I hope you get a chance to check them out as well.
