So I was just thumbing through my feed and saw that Dtube has explained the recent change in upvoting as well as explained those new rewards we have been noticing in our wallets!
Ok, so first things first, the curation!
Ok Dtube, I love you, but for the sake of keeping it real...
I think everyone noticed that the voting pattern changed. I just don't think anyone wanted to talk about it because no one likes a speculator, and we wouldn't want you guys to think we were just all bitching again! Everyone was more curious than anything! Now we have an explanation! YAY!
Ok so basically, these were the announced changes to curation. There will now be a Discord bot that makes the curation job a little easier! (which is great!)
The bot will:
Detect reposts and plagiarism and block votes for those
(So, for those of you recycling old content, I guess you still can, but it won't get an upvote. You also won't get an upvote for taking something that belongs to someone else. This is great because right off the bat it will eliminate at least a small swath of videos that should never have been considered in the first place. Less videos to comb through means that the good ones will get more attention! Win-win!)
Create a 15 minute decision window where all curators can contest an upvote
(I am assuming this means that the bot sets aside content that it considers eligible for an upvote, and will automatically upvote it unless the curator realizes it's a no-go? Or does that mean that if one curator upvotes something, then another curator has the option to contest it? Please correct me in the comments, I am only going off of what I can only assume this to mean!)
The more curators agree that a video is good, the stronger the vote will be
(Power in numbers! This is good, because if there is maybe a curator who doesn't exactly LOVE your stuff, there are still a few others whose decision is taken into consideration, so that's a positive!)
Lowers the vote strength depending on how many votes the author already received this week
(This is the only contentious change that I see, depending on how many votes is considered in the "how many votes" part. I think that if a creator makes great content, that the amount their votes are worth shouldn't drop just because they produce great content. Now, I'm talking about producers who maybe make 1-2 vids a day, and can potentially understand a limit on upvotes, but I can also see people just making multiple accounts if the bot is sorting things out via account and not person. So, I am not even sure how effective it will be. I may not be understanding this right though either, so I'm not sure there.)
Waits to never vote earlier than 30 minutes
(I thought this was already a thing, haha)
- Creates logs from the curation discord channel
(Yay transparency!)
Then we have the Beneficiary Rewards.
Basically, from what I understand, to help offset the 25%, Dtube is giving back to those that upvote Dtube stuff! You can do it manually, you can do it through a curation trail (I belong to three) or you can delegate SP directly to Dtube and they will use it to upvote material for you, thereby earning you SP back!
Pretty cool stuff.
I guess what I remain a bit confused about is if the curation team then will remain round the clock, or if we are only going to get hits if we upload at certain times? Like, if the bot is doing the curation, and picks a vid, and there aren't any curators on to approve it, will it get skipped, or? How does that work? I could have gotten some of this wrong though, so make sure to ask Dtube if you have any questions.
I just made this post to kind of start a dialogue, and because I know people may have questions about this very thing, but may not want to ask.
Ok, so Dtube, I just want to say thank you for all you guys do, and for listening to your users, and trying to incorporate new creators! This is a total learning process for everyone, but we all appreciate what you guys do!

I've actually noticed for a few days now that I've been getting dtube-rewards for posts of yours that I've upvoted. Definitely an interesting approach. I thought they'd take the 25% forever so they'd continually generate higher and higher upvote values.
Wonder if the 'lower vote for more videos' will just get people switching between dlive and dtube over the week?
I don't know, it's kind of a mess. I'm so glad you are getting rewards! YAY! I think that part is great and will hopefully encourage more people to be on the watching side of Dtube. It seems like the changes are usually pretty extreme! I def want more good creators to get upvotes, but not necessarily at the sake of amazing creators not getting as much anymore, like @harshilpatel, whose videos are the bees knees! I don't travel at all, so I love to watch them!
I'm sure they will test this out to see if it works, and if it doesn't, try something new! A great think about Dtube is they are pretty open to suggestion and criticism and have been rather flexible! :)
I mean... the rewards are minuscule. Today I got 0.007 STEEM reward off one of your videos that had a $63.565 payout... so I imagine @dtube is collecting the lions share of those 25% curation rewards from it's 25% cut... but still, I wasn't expecting it so it's nice to see.
I thought @dtube completely ignored it's community in it's discord, but I guess @dlive has got them nervous. I'm really keen to do more fitnessy videos... so I'll have to try them both...
It doesn't talk to anyone directly, but they scan over what we are all talking about.
Dang I didn't realize the rewards were so little. That doesn't sound right...I will ask about that!
Well... it'd be based off the 25% curation reward... so I would have upvoted you like $0.15 and then I would have gotten back the percentage of the 25% curation reward of the $63.565... which would have been tiny I'm sure. It's proportionate, and based on the time and order that I upvoted.
Gotcha. I really don't understand how any of the numbers work to be perfectly honest haha. I'm a numbers person, so I love to work with numbers, but how percentages are calculated out here make no sense to me hahaha :)

Haha, what makes DTube think that I want to work for 2 days and end up with no views and a payout window of only 6 days. If I had known they would change the rules during the game, I would not have posted some of my videos and waited for more followers instead. BTW, who decided to take away our view counts? What are they hiding? 446 up votes on 8 views? Yeah, thought so!
Yeah that bothers me. I want to know how many people have actually seen my stuff. I do think it's a way for people to hide what they're doing.

Yeah, it's funny, I have like two totally different worlds I live in, the acting world and the singing world. It would seem like they should intersect but they don't really. I would love to have a separate account just for my Lady Steem character and then an account for just me to be myself, and sing and such. I just don't have the time for it.

I'm with you on the lowering the vote strength to being counterintuitive. You want to reward good creators, this is like communism. I want the free market dammit. LOL. 😎
Haha well technically it all still falls under the digital feudalism blanket, but I understand what you mean! I def think there should be limits put on what creators are getting. Some creators have been getting upwards of 6 upvotes daily from dtube, which is pretty nuts. I was lucky to get one a day. Now I will likely not get that. But, I am still happy for what I get, and will press on. Maybe one day, if I work hard enough, it will pay off. Has never been the case up til now, but ya just never know!!! Hahaha!
I think you're slaying it. Keep up the good work. You seem to love it, and while you do, why not keep doing it? Can't say reward will come, but if anyone stands a chance at reaping it, you do. But then again I'm a biased fanboy. Lol. 😎
