DTube vs YouTube | Vlog #7

in #dtube8 years ago

Hey SteemSquad and Dtubers!

It took ages for this to upload as I'm already seeing a bad flaw in DTube as it took me 4 different browsers to finally upload this (and 1 hour of stress).

Today's vlog highlights the pros and cons of DTube when it is pitted against the giant YouTube platform.

DTUBE

Pros:

  • Better for beginners
  • Small userbase (easier to get to the front page)
  • Easily posts
  • Not views driven
  • New and changing

Cons:

  • IPFS errors is seriously bad.
  • Low resolution
  • A bit more technical to understand
  • No analytics

YOUTUBE

Pros:

  • Huge audience
  • Viral ability
  • Much better for content creators (uploading, editing etc.)
  • Old but established
  • Playlists

Cons:

  • Extremely hard to get noticed
  • Copyright Strict policies
  • Ego filled creators

Please say hi! I'd love to meet everyone on here and talk about cryptos and life 👊

Do you still release on Youtube? And do you reupload Youtube content you make here?
My original plan for 2018 was to make tons of Youtube content but after looking around Dtube and Steemit I'm wondering if I should focus more here instead.

I have 2 youtube channels but everything on Dtube is original and exclusive. I don't re-upload my videos on here. I see it more of a challenge to start new on something.

Next year I'll be focussing even more on Dtube and less on Youtube.

Do you have some success on Dtube? I think on Dtube are popular those who popular on steemit.

I've had some mild success. There's not many people uploading original content on Dtube so I think it's a great opportunity to put yourself in front of the camera and getting people to watch you.

Problem here - your new content is out of list after a hour.

Which list are ya referring to?

New Videos, list New Videos on main page

Can you explain how you get paid and how much?
I see you have $6 for this video, is that the actually $6 US dollars?
Does size of upload have anything to do with amount you get paid?
Is the amount you get paid for a video only based on views?
How long do payments go on, does it end, how is money added to your total?

Hey Jackal, it's actually in "steemdollars" which varies in price but is definitely over $5 usd.

  • Your rewards get split up to steem power as well (which gives you more upvote power)
  • You also never get the full amount of the earnings as it goes to the people who upvote your videos
  • The size of the video really doesn't matter, just make sure it's widescreen
  • The amount you get paid is all dependent on the people who upvote you. If they have more steempower, the more you get. They can allocate how much they pay you as well when they have over 500 steempower.
  • The payments end in 7 days so anything earned after that 1st week doesn't count.

Hope that helps!

I cant load this video for the life of me!

I really like dtube because I get noticed - thats the main reason why I do it and dont try to think about the negative. If the video doesn't load I come back to it later for sure.

Does your Instagram get much success? I assume you've tried Youtube videos as well. How did that go?

Hey Kevin! I totally agree with you with...well...EVERYTHING you just said and you are right. Youtube is awesome, but it's very very VERY competitive because it has already existed for ages and so it's quite difficult for beginners to rank or even be seen. We have an OPPORTUNITY here and, in my personal opinion, steemit is going to be huge in a couple of years and also dtube. Once more people have joined in, let's say, 5 years, we will have advantage because we have been here since the beginning :)

It's awesome connecting with you man!

Winny out ;)

Thanks Winny, glad to see someone who knows what the future of Steemit/dtube will be. Let's keep pumping the content out and watching the seeds grow 👊

Have a good one.

HELLS TO THE YEAH!! :)

YouTube has disabled their editor, so once uploaded you'd have to upload a new edit of your video if you want to change it. To me the biggest disadvantage to DTube is the buffering. If your video does not play right away, or stops in the middle, the viewer will go elsewhere. This means you miss the opportunity to gain a new follower or vote. I'm confident this is a temporary issue, but for video content creators it is a major one. Greetings!

Oh wow, how recent has that new Youtube re-uploader been happening for?

The buffering is killer, I'm pretty persistent, and sometimes change browsers to watch the videos.

I can't remember the exact date (2 months ago maybe), but I got a message announcing that they would disable the editor in the creator studio and later I saw a video on another channel complaining about having to upload a fresh edit of the same video and having to take down the original along with the views it had already accumulated. I never used the YT editor much; since I upload 4K video that takes 1 hour per minute of video on my connection, I make certain I can't improve it beforehand.

In DTube I sometimes can't get my own video to play, and assume that other viewers will do the same thing I do; after a minute or so, I will simply find another video to watch that does work. If for some reason I think the video that wasn't playing is worth watching, I will retry the video at a later time, if not, the uploader is out of luck.

The uploader is so damn broken. I had to use 4 browsers to finally upload this one. I've run out of browsers haha. I'm sure Youtube did it for a specific reason. They do loads of research

@Kevinli want to build an Youtube Empire check my Blog.
You will be able to rank 3.4 Million YouTube Videos within short time

hello kevin, i really like steem too
it'll be interesting to watch where this goes

Hello! Yeah, I already know it's gonna be so good next year. Every time steem rises in price, Steemit benefits from it directly

Hello from Australia mate :).. Like u mentioned dtube still has a fair way to go, but they never said it was easy, and at least it works (sort of). The first major video I uploaded took me 3 hours... Dtube does not handle large files well. Have a good mate

@strongerbeings

G'day mate! My advice is use a compressor app. I use handbrake for mac. Makes a 1gb file into a 150mb file.
Keep going, my man! Let's rep the Aussies.

Cheers man. Fairly new to the whole video blog scene, but really keen to get over once Im done travelling in China.

Sweet dude, I'm looking forward to seeing some 😀

Thanks for sharing. Might give DTUBE a shot.

Do itttttt

I tried to watch your blogs on my phone. DTUBE is not loading. Have you encountered this before ?
