RE: WHERE ARE OUR COMMUNITIES?

in #dtube5 years ago

I don't think DApps and communities need to be at odds in any way. I find it inevitable that as the platform grows, communities will develop along the lines of which apps people use. Sure, blogging apps like SteemPeak or Steemit do not facilitate people creating communities because they access the same content in very similar ways. But it can already be seen that DTubers do not tend to interact with the bloggers all that much. Some people play Splinterlands and do nothing else.

When it comes to apps and communities, apps with large delegations are in fact at a key position to influence their users. If all they do is upvote top level posts, then that will get them no community. But if they start rewarding people for good comments, that will definitely promote a set of more community-oriented behaviors.

True that. Each dapp that performs a specific function or provides a specific service has its own communities, so should I say a more appropriate word would be 'user base'. Do these users interact with each other or just the system/platform? There are people here who just want to earn a buck or two and not necessarily build anything and it has become easier with dapps. I do not frown at this, however, the foundation of this blockchain I think was built on collective effort. I think that's where the idea of 'communities' sprung up--people coming together, pulling their creative and material resources in other to achieve a goal, this I feel hasn't been relevant as it once was and probably that's because we are moving towards another era. Sigh. I write better than I talk.

You're right. And to rectify the situation, DApps must step up to the plate and reward people for engagement. That's a very good strategy for them as businesses because a community has much more staying power than disconnected individuals.

I hope this message gets to the top. Fixing things on the basic level without tweaking too much is key.
