Hey great video
Was wondering if you’ve ever been flagged for bot abuse
Thanks 👍

Posted using Partiko iOS

Hey, I love your question, and in fact, I am more than happy that you mentioned it!

No, I haven't well, I never used any "bad" bots.(Okay, you never know if they are :P ) You can't make it into trending without using any kind of promotion. I think it's similar to "real life". Assuming that you have a new restaurant. What would you do? Just wait until some people come inside, or go outside and looking for people "pay someone" to go on the street, or advertise it online, flyers, etc... If people use promotion to get more visibility it would be fair, but most of them aren't they are not really caring about their content which is very sad, and they just want an upvote(most of the good bots aren't about printing Steem just break even, and you will get visibility) I know that it is not only on Steemit, Youtube, Facebook, etc. have the same problem. I would use them even for a loss(not just break even) as long as I could get more visibility, grow my audience make customers(people who are watching it) happy and later on if they are I am more than happy to make a profit out of it. I hope that this makes sense. I could give you other examples if you like.

In my next "Tutorial" I'll tell you how most people are doing it stay tuned for that ;)

Is it so vital to be on trending? You do know that most established users won't look there? It just seems to be a way to get lots of minnow attention as they fish for votes on their comments and it gives a false sense of what is popular. In any case you need to buy huge votes to even get on there. I see you are not always doing this.

I do flag posts that I think are abusing the bots. Not all of them operate blacklists. People will do this just to earn a few cents each time, but it's depriving those who actually put in work of their rewards as it reduced what is available. It's also making the vote sellers ever-more powerful. Is that the Steem we want to see?

There's an interesting paragraph in the white paper:

Eliminating “abuse” is not possible and shouldn’t be the goal. Even those who are attempting to “abuse” the system are still doing work. Any compensation they get for their successful attempts at abuse or collusion is at least as valuable for the purpose of distributing the currency as the make-work system employed by traditional Bitcoin mining or the collusive mining done via mining pools. All that is necessary is to ensure that abuse isn’t so rampant that it undermines the incentive to do real work in support of the community and its currency.

I'm not sure I see the value of abuse, but I will do what I can to make it non-profitable for those who give nothing back to Steem. I want to see good creators get rewarded, but the system is getting skewed in a bad way.

My preference would be to not have trending as the default page for new users. Hot is better, if still open to gaming.

@steevc

Not sure where I should start, but I'll try.

I was wondering how did you discover my post?

Are we talking about Dtube trending? Because I was referring to Dtube trending, I never really looked at trending on Steemit, even at the beginning. Up to a point, I agree with you, but I think it is the best way to get users attention if you are promoting your content...

"On July 4, 2016, Steemit, Inc. launched Steemit, a social media platform with virtual currency rewards that runs over the Steem blockchain."

So, I had a look at your account and your story, and I have read through some of your old posts.(2 years ago) I noticed that you joined August 2016. That was just after Steemit launched. And it seems that during that time it was already difficult to find some other users who weren't in the trending/hot/promoting section. So I see where you are coming from!

I agree with you that it is making the vote seller even stronger if you are promoting this kind of services, however, I do think that we need some services that are offering promotion (Real targeted promotion like Facebook is doing is for example) So that you can find users who are interested in your content. It is just not possible at least for now.

Also, it depends on the topic, for example, if you are writing articles about cryptocurrencies it is far more likely that your Steemit post will eventually (with a slide chance but at least there is one ) pop up in Google so that other people can discover it and follow you.

I like to use real-life examples. At the moment I am working in a travel agency, and as a makeup artist but only freelance, I'm studying leadership and management, improve my English skills.. etc., however, I would like to focus on the travel agency.

Assuming that I would be at work right now...and if I sat down all the time not doing advertisement on the blackboard, online, leaving my shop and talk to people, we wouldn't sell anything at all. (let's say most of the days. Of course, they branded the shop through advertisement, on Tv, etc.) Some people would come of course, but I wouldn't make much money out of it, and you have to get by and make some otherwise you will be out of business. You can't wait until people discover your shop...

What I want to do is show new people what they could do(through video content, I couldn't find any videos on that.. (here comes the joke, because they are getting deleted ). Promoting services through MinnowBoosters like "onelovedtube," which are claiming to keep your videos active and alive so that people who are looking for it can't find it, and that content creators who are putting massive effort into their content are getting discovered isn't a bad thing isn't it?

I don't see what's wrong with that.

Hm, I had a quick look into trending, correct me if I am wrong, but the same bots are active here. (Appreciator,Upmewhale, etc.) So are they bad? (Because nobody knows except the people who are into it since the beginning) The content seems to be real, not sure what's wrong with it unless it is copy past, etc.

What do you suggest how can you get discovered? How did you do it? Please do a video about it or tell people how they should do it. Otherwise, nobody will. Because everybody is afraid of using services supporting projects... People think it is a huge scam, but it isn't? Still not sure yet, because it doesn't matter what I try to do people are always complaining about it. And the people who are abusing the system every day are just getting away with it.(I assume that they have big accounts and they would flag the content as well..)

Just one thing I want to mention is that you also had a huge first mover advantage, and you can't compare it with someone who just started on Steemit. (Assuming that they are good at what they are doing, and even if they aren't we can't judge what's right and what's wrong)

I was lucky to be here early on, but I just did lots of commenting and making connections. Vote selling was not really a thing then and it was more about getting support of whales. I didn't get the thousand dollar posts that some had.

There are certain people you will always see on trending because they buy hundreds in votes even though they have far more followers than me. They seem addicted to doing that and get a massive portion of the available rewards even if their profits are much lower. That seems selfish to me.

I just wanted to point out some of the issues. There's serious abuse of the system going on, but it's largely invisible to most. People buy enough votes to make something without trending on every post, regardless of the content. It happens with comments too. Many of the vote sellers don't seem to care, so we take action to deter this.

I wasn't having a go at you, but I felt the need to chip in.

Peace

Yes, I noticed that you are very active.

I do think that it depends on the niche, I can't comment on makeup topics.. Why? Because there aren't any ;)

The beauty industry is one of the biggest industries out there, but they are not on Steemit. I guess it is because most of them do not trust the system at all, or do not understand it at least for now, or don't know that such a platform exists because there is "again" no marketing. Also, there are just a few women active in the crypto industry, etc...

People in the beauty industry are doing lots of tutorials, well the trend is now showing people what you have in your bag, etc. I don't like doing that, and I learned makeup in school, I prefer the everyday real life makeup application. Anyway, it's going more and more towards online video content. So Dtube is the right platform, no one wants to read about it anymore...

Well, what I want to say is that it might be not the right time for it, we have to focus on the community keeping it active and alive and show people how to use the services...

And now we have the problem that you can't even use the search bar on Dtube!

"I just wanted to point out some of the issues. There's serious abuse of the system going on, but it's largely invisible to most. People buy enough votes to make something without trending on every post, regardless of the content. It happens with comments too. Many of the vote sellers don't seem to care, so we take action to deter this."

There is but do you have a solution? And how can you tell if the content is quality content or not? I mean if it's plagiarism, violence, etc it's obvious. I mean my English isn't perfect (because it is my 4the language), and I try to improve it, so you could argue that my content isn't quality content because of my grammar mistakes, structure, etc. But my focus is on teaching people how they can apply makeup, or for now how they could use the Dapps, services which are on Steem... I'm not sure, how you can judge their content?

If you have any idea on how you can find people with the same interests on this platform except using promoting services in my niche, I would appreciate it if you could let me know. I have absolutely no idea...

I don't have all the answers I'm afraid. Maybe buying votes can get you attention, but just don't do it all the time like some people as that is selfish behaviour. Your post says 'get profits' from a bot. I see it as a problem if that's all people try to do.

Did you know that the biggest earning post ever here was a make up tutorial? I think it made $40,000! I have to say your English is as good as many native speakers.

Thanks so much for your answer
I totally agree with what your saying, I have used promo services a few times.
Have you heard of SteemFlagRewards?
I understand flagging spam or plagiarism ,but someone promoting there art or music didn’t strike me as abuse.
If possible could you talk about good/bad services and what promotional services you like to use
Hopefully I don’t get flagged again

Thanks again

Well, I watched your Dtube videos, but I couldn't see any flags? On what kind of content was it do you have the link, because I'm really interested in doing a video about that topic. Yes, I am following SteemFlagRewards, but I haven't had a chance to look into it... When I started cheetah posted "plagiarism" under my content all the time, and it took me a while to get in touch with them. The funny thing was that he mentioned my own content (haha) I have to do my research because I am not a 100% sure about the bid bots and how they are different from the promoting services(maybe the whitelist...?^^) or are they even the same? Who's right who is wrong? Maybe they are all good, but people just abuse them?

Here is the post it’s a photograph

https://steemit.com/photography/@xxxplasticman/rusty-crusty

I’m an artist I spend a lot of time to create some of my photography
By no means do I think I abused any bots in comparison to other posts I’ve seen with 6 or 7 bots
I might not have 2 pages of text along with my art but that’s not what I do . The effort is in the art itself. Art is open to interpretation but doesn’t mean it’s worthless if you don’t like it.
Thanks again

@xxxplasticman

Yes, I see.

I could see that you used appreciator and what I noticed is that the following bots are always used to get content in trending "appreciator, smartsteem, the rising and upmewhale."

Hmm, but this is getting really interesting. Because post promoter is on the list as well, which I used to share some content recently... I thought that I could get even more visibility if I am using it...

To be honest, I do not have any idea at the moment. But what you could do is just go to trending and have a look at the top posts, and see what bots they are using and do not use them.

But what I know is that Minnowbooster is fantastic I love the community they are friendly, helpful and answering all your questions, I do think that their service is beneficial.

I also want to mention OCDB which I am using, but you have to get on the whitelist, but I think with your content it should be possible?!

I know what you mean same as me. It takes a lot of time and effort to do it because you really have to think about it, and you want to deliver as perfect as possible.

When it comes to the text, I did the same in the beginning, but I noticed that when I write a little story about the pictures, it's getting more upvotes+comments. I guess it is because people can relate to it.

Like, tell your audience when you took the picture if you had a good or bad day and how you came up with the idea to take the picture from that angle, etc. Because of the art or photography tag, lots of people are using it, some of them just take a picture without putting any effort in it and post it, others do it with passion and want to stand out! - You need to stand out.

So, I guess if this is the only picture you posted, people think that it's fake and you got it from the Internet. You need to clarify that you took the picture and put your name or logo in it + little text.

Sometimes you do get hate comments for no reason, (which is very sad ) they might have a bad day or whatever... Like I did on this post, even if they are not related to the actual topic...

I would like to focus on the good things in my next videos, but I want to do a video on that topic, maybe there is someone else who knows more, at the moment it is really tricky...

By the way are you using discord?

unfortunately there will always be haters and ones that want to control things, cant please everybody. We can only stay true to our self and do what we do with integrity.I also like to focus my energy on the positives.
What I gather so far is there's a some what mixed opinion on the subject.

Another question I guess, are promotion services and upvote bots the same thing? a grey area possibly.

I just recently started on discord . There is a learning curve for sure to this whole steemit thing.

thank you for the conversation

Delegation to minniwbooster is top notch!

Hy @mvd

Did you know that you have 41035 transactions historically on the Steem blockchain!
You can check and download all your transactions, votes, comments and more with @steemdetective!
Start here steemdetective.com

@mvd you paid 25 SBD for the up-vote and got 31.4 up-vote. After 25% curation you just lost money ....

31.4 x .75 = 23.55 (which is the 100% - 25% curation that others get from your vote)

How is this profitable?

I'm not sure what do you mean? And did you watch the video? And did you read the text above?

I got on their discord. They are looking into it.

What did you do stick a piece of metal through your face you dumb ass bitch ?

You really look like a fucking clown with all that make up. Attractive women do not need all that crud.

The only reason you get any responses is because these guys think you are a whore. 1 Female and the rest all male comments.
