Marx & Engels' one of the newspaper articles collected in the Eastern Question has a determination of "the identification of the dominant religion with the ruling class" of the Ottoman's Bosnian Beylerbeyli. This demonstration is described as the transition of Bosnian Slavic nobility to Muslims. In other words, becoming a Muslim may mean that economic and political power is guaranteed in that conjuncture. In the same article, for the Turks, who constitute a large part of the city in Anatolia, "the main livelihood is provided by working for the Christian shareholders, but still, with the jealousy of Christians, it protects the alleged supremacy of Islamic privileges and away from punishment."
