SCREW Traditional Goal-setting, THIS Is How You Achieve Your Dreams

in #dtube β€’ 6 years ago (edited)

Hey everyone! Hope you're CRUSHING it this week πŸ’―πŸ™ŒπŸΌ

Topic of today? Why I think traditional goal-setting sucks and often leads to nothing but anxiety and little to no results. Instead I propose the concept of a vision, and taking a bottom-up approach to pursue your dreams with amazing results.

Also, in the second part of the video I exemplify how you can achieve your Steemit dreams much more efficient and with a lot less frustration. The concepts I talk about here are KEY to anything in life really, SMART goals just doesn't cut it, you need this approach πŸ™πŸΌ

Take care everyone! πŸ’›

Yes, take control of what you want to do and don't chase what you can't control. Well said!

I think that Steemit is a golden opportunity for content creators and as you say I am making the comments and posts I want to make.

Hey buddy @williamwest, superb video!!! Honestly, I'm stoked to see that you're producing video content now - what a surprise to be back in STEEM!!!

Your 'new' method of achieving your dreams is very similar to mine, in which I strongly believe is more relevant for today's pace compared to the traditional SMART Goal Settings. This is because:

  1. it helps us to be more flexible (rather than limiting ourselves to doing a specific job in a specific time frame with a specific salary, setting a vision opens up various pathways to achieve the dream of building a tech startup)
  2. it accommodates the possible changes in the future (in case you don't want to work anymore - then you just own a tech startup rather than build your own tech startup, which are both possible).

By allowing ourselves to be more flexible and accommodating, we can experience life one step at a time and really enjoy the present moment while still working towards our future!!

Welcome back brother! Had a good time off? πŸ™ŒπŸΌ

Yes, yes, and yes, I agree totally and we needless to say share the same view πŸ™πŸΌ

Once again welcome back!! 😁

Yeah, a much needed break to evaluate my progress and what's next :) Great to be back to consuming your content again man!!

Really great way to flip a goal mindset right on its head. I have always disliked the question of 5,10, etc. year goals because it places oneself in such a limited box. Seems like what you are describing here is creating an overall vision of what you want to achieve and breaking it down into smaller and smaller pieces so the overall journey of getting to the end goal is less daunting and seems to be much more achievable. A good friend of mine calls these mini - goals and they really help one reframe all the parts of an overall plan. Great content! Keep up the amazing work.

P.s. Where are you studying currently and was your goal of owning a tech start up a real goal or one you just gave as an example for the video?

Love your comment my friend, I agree a 100%, mini-goals is indeed a good way to describe it!

I'm studying in Stockholm at the Royal Institute of Technology, Industrial Economics & Management (Computer Science focus and master in Machine Learning).

The goal is indeed one of my main visions, not written in stone but one of my top aspirations currently πŸ™πŸΌ

Sounds like you are definitely on a path to success there man. Especially with this mindset I think you will reach your goals and more!

Good also to not have any goal set in stone because as you said our visions of ourselves change over time as long as the interests that we hold. Much better to have broad views of what we want then mold to an end goal as we see fit. Best wishes to you friend, have a fantastic day :)

Oh right back at ya, your profile description says it all πŸ™ŒπŸΌ

Exactly, better be adaptable and steer the boat depending on the wind πŸ™πŸΌ

Crush it today brother πŸ‘ŠπŸΌ

I think the area of goal making is one that I have really experimented with.

Your tips are awesome and relevant to anyone struggling to actualize goals. We all need to know we cannot plan for what we cannot control. That came out very clearly. Thank you

Happy to hear you enjoyed the video @mutitum, hope you gained some inspiration to spur further experiments yourself πŸ™πŸΌ

I sure did. Even took out paper and pen to write some notes. Thank you

This made my day, thank you πŸ˜πŸ™πŸΌ
