Kali Linux 2018.1 installation in VMware Workstation guide

Step 1. Setup VMware Workstation

Open the VMware Workstation application click on file tab and select New virtual machine or press ctrl+N.
Now, will open New Virtual Machine Wizard. Now select on Typical (recommended) option then click on next and select on Installer disc image file (iso) and browse and select your Kali Linux iso file and click next now select a Guest Operating System select on Linux and version In my case I'm installing Kali Linux 2018.1 64-bit so m choosing on Debian 64 bit. If you are installing 32-bit os you must be select on Debian 32 bit. Then click next.
Inter your Virtual machine name In my case I'm giving Kali Linux. Then browse and select where you want to put your installation file then click next. Now enter your disk size how much do you want to use and click next. Then click on Customize Hardware. Select on Memory select 2GB for better performance then select on Network Adapter choose on Bridged: Connected directly to the physical network then click close after the finish.

Step 2. Installation Kali Linux

Now power on your Kali Linux virtual machine wait 5 to 10 s. and select and press enter on Graphical Install now select your language then click on continue or press Enter key, now select your country and click continue. Configure the keyboard then click continue it will take less than 2 minutes. Now type your hostname then press Enter. Domain name leaves it blank press Enter. Then type your Root password and Re-enter your password and then press enter.
Now select Partition method chooses Manual then press Enter now choose SCSI1 (0,0,0) (sda) - 20.5 GB VMware, VMware Virtual S and click on continue. Now Create a new partition table on this device? click on yes and then press enter then select > pri/log 21.5 GB Free space then click on continue now select on create a new partition and press enter New partition size 21.5 GB then press enter now select on Primary and press enter then click on Done setting up the partition click on continue again click on Finish partitioning and write changes to disk and click on continue. Select No and press enter, again select on yes and press enter it will take some time. Use a network mirror? choose No then press enter. Install the GRUB boot loader Choose Yes then Press enter. Device for boot loader installation select on /dev/sda and press enter. It will take some time. Now installation completed press enter. after finishing install it will restart. Username- type root and password what you have given.

Installation VMware tools in VMware Workstation

Open your web browser and click on kali Docs. 05. Using Kali Linux click on kali sources.list Repositories and copy the kali rolling repository and minimized it open file click on Other Location then open computer then go to etc>apt> open Sources.list file open with Leafpad and select all delete it and past and save it. Now open the terminal and type the command apt-get update and press enter it will take some time depending on your internet speed, your machine is now updated now type the following command apt -y install open-vm-tools-desktop fuse and press enter it also will 1 or 2 minutes depending on your internet speed. After completed you need to reboot your virtual machine type on your terminal reboot and press enter. Now your machine is ready to use

Nice what kind of tools do you plan on playing with?
I find that running Kali from a livedisk is nice for wifi hacking.
I had trouble accessing my wifi card from inside a virtual machine.

Yah it's big problem in virtual machine, u can run kali os live os , for wifi hacking

Will it work on windows os? but mostly user are using VMware or Virtual Box

I also used Kali Linux as a main os but Kali Linux is a little bit slow when m using VMware in Kali Linux. m using different os practices like android, mac, windows Linux so m using VMware workstation pro its best for me, I don't about docker, thanks for info I will try
