Steemit Bandwidth Issues For New Users *Solved

in #earthnation6 years ago (edited)

If you're new and been experiencing low bandwidth issues browsing the site, there's probably good reason and it may not even be your fault. When new accounts are created the fee is paid on the blockchain on your behalf. In the past when Steem was pegged to the $1 USD dollar it would cost 6 steem and that would go straight into Steem Power. As the peg is broken the fee has changed and due to the volatility and influx of new members, Steemit has probably allocated even less Steem Power for new accounts. Maybe as a measure to reduce how much Steem is being issued for free. @earthnation runs a Guild and while onboarding new members and monitoring post activity we were concerned as to why SP levels were still below 15 on some accounts. Turns out that some accounts are being made with SP as low as 1.2!

Just because a new account is made, it doesn't mean someone is going to use it. How many dead/inactive accounts are there? Loads!

With that said, there are also many members whom for some reason powered down their Steem Power and cashed out. Only to later to return to using Steem and realising they can't. They withdrew so much Steem Power that they had none left to have sufficient bandwidth to use the site.

So what's the solution?

If you're not on Twitter, you should know it has a growing Steemit community. It serves as a good source of diverting new traffic to Steemit. Anyway, you'll find many content creators, authors and whales use it. So as I had a friend that was experiencing bandwidth issues I reached out to find answers. Quickly @planetsteem on Twitter offered assistance.

Planet Steem is run by @ashleykalila @fabiyamada @stellabelle @greenrun @turpsy and @ogochukwu as an initiative to get more traffic to Steemit, specifically Planet Steemit.

Platforms like @dtube are getting more attention but many still don't know it's tied to Steemit. They are also running a Thunderclap campaign in order to attract new members. Such marketing and initiatives are needed to keep the value of Steem and Steem Dollars up. Without new members and new member retention, the value of Steem goes down.

Planet Steem offered to delegate the account in question some SP to allow my friend to log in. They suggested this useful Steem tool: steemd.com

Just add your username to find stats. https://steemd.com/@yourusername

You'll see your voting weight and bandwidth remaining. From here you can at least work out what's going on and transfer some Steem to your account or get someone to temporarily delegate for you. From here we were able to work out what went wrong and add some SP to re-power his account. So if you're one of the people or know someone unable to use the site then I'd look at this tool. You now know what to do about it.

Big thanks to @planetsteem for their help.
