Teaching my daughters about wild food.

in #ecotrain6 years ago

I like to dream of the day when I can wake up at the sound of the rooster crowing and the goats jabbering. Starting my day with homestead chores... Milking the goats, gathering eggs, feeding animals. With the help of the @hippiedaughters of course!
Then grabbing our baskets and heading out to forage wild foods!

It may not be everyones dream, but it's mine!
Someday it will happen!

Until then, I have been teaching the @hippiedaughters about wild foods growing right in our back yard!

I believe it is so important to teach our sons and daughters not only where their foods come from and how to prepare them, but also how to recognise and find natural, wild foods.

Trying new foods, especially wild grown foods, is exciting! The @hippiedaughters look forward to trying new things, learning what nutrients it will provide their bodies!

Plus they learn the value of working together for a common goal.

@hippiedaughter3 helped me gather, separate, and wash gobbs of Lambs Quarters, aka wild spinach.

We had tons growing where our rabbit cages used to be!

We also have a young voluntary mulberry tree. With berries!
Im hoping the birds leave some for us!

We also have an abundance of huge dandelions and curly dock. Though we don't harvest and eat them much currently.

Lovely pictures. I had the same issue on Monday.

Your dream sounds very pleasant and I’m happy that you have at least a little land to play with.

Crazy pictures!

Yes, we have a pretty good size yard here in town, but we feel the need for space!

this is such an important skill to teach your children, well done x

Thank you ❤

Keep dreaming and you'll get there!

Love it!! You have an abundance of wild foods there!

Our free range chickens and our goats eat up most of ours... The other day though, I was able to harvest a bunch of puffball mushrooms since it has been raining so much. :D

When we had our meat rabbits, they ate most of it!
But our 3 pet bunnies just cant keep up 😂

Haha those meat rabbits can sure eat a lot!
At least now you can harvest it for yourselves! Its so healthY!

Sounds like a great experience to share with them! It does sound like a good dream you have to me. You have quite a bit of wild plants, ranging from vegetables to fruits, exciting days ahead @corrielaine :)

Thank you❤

I Love this!! I agree that it is very important to teach our children these types of skills. I love the pics of all your fruitful trees!

Thanks! We have located some wild blackberry patches just down the road on a walking trail too!

Yummy!!!! 😋
