Cada 4 de octubre, se celebra el Día Mundial de los Animales en conmemoración a San Francisco de Asís, Patrono de los Animales y de los Ecologistas, quien concibió la creación del mundo como un regalo de Dios y dedicó parte de su vida al cuidado y la protección del ambiente y de todos los animales o hermanos (como él los hacía llamar).
Every October 4, World Animal Day is celebrated in commemoration of Saint Francis of Assisi, Patron of Animals and Ecologists, who conceived the creation of the world as a gift from God and dedicated part of his life to the care and the protection of the environment and of all animals.
Hace 90 años, la Organización Mundial de los Animales, declaró este importante día, para concienciar sobre las problemáticas que atentan contra el equilibrio de la naturaleza con la finalidad de generar soluciones con respecto a las especies de extinción.
90 years ago, the World Organization of Animals, declared this important day, to raise awareness about the problems that threaten the balance of nature in order to generate solutions regarding species of extinction.
Pero, los datos referentes a la desaparición de especies no son muy alentadores. Para contextualizar, un poco la magnitud del problema citó un fragmento del artículo “El mundo inhumano”, del escritor venezolano, Antonio Pérez Esclarín, quien refiere lo siguiente:
But, the data concerning the disappearance of species are not very encouraging. To contextualize, a bit the magnitude of the problem cited a fragment of the article "The Inhuman World", by the Venezuelan writer, Antonio Pérez Esclarín, who refers to the following
“Las especies vivientes mueren a un ritmo aterrador. Si se calcula que, entre 1500 y 1850, desapareció una especie viviente cada diez años, y entre 1850 y 1990 una especie por año, a partir de 1990 empezó a desaparecer una especie por día”.
“Living species die at a terrifying rate. If it is estimated that, between 1500 and 1850, one living species disappeared every ten years, and between 1850 and 1990 one species per year, from 1990 one species began to disappear per day."
Sin duda, quienes se preocupan y contribuyen a mejorar y proteger a los animales suman desafíos a vencer cada día. Extiendo mi agradecimiento a todos ellos (veterinarios, biólogos, científicos, ambientalistas y ecologistas; entre otros).
Undoubtedly, those who care and contribute to improve and protect animals add challenges to overcome every day.
