Steem platform has given many people the opportunity to blog and earn online unlike other social platforms examples Facebook, reddit etc. Moreover, financial gains are not the only benefit of this great platform rather steemit offers folks many other values examples:
Education/Knowledge: In steemit, you can learn about new things, examples cryptocurrencies ( example Ethereum Lyte see their current white list section https://elyte.tech/whitelist.html ) , cooking, art, nature, literature, politics etc. This is amazing because knowledge is power and such power always lead to success.
Moreover, there are a lot of innovations going on behind the scenes in steemit platform due to the ingenuity of steem ecosystem.
Contacts: There are a lot of solid contacts on steemit which can benefit members in their personal lives (friends, networking buddies etc) and business dealings, joint innovation etc.
Promotional platform: Steemit is great in promoting someone’s brand or business however for new people or unestablished members, this promotion comes with a high cost just like other social media platforms.
Conversely, however, there are downsides (unfortunately) to everything (technology) because nothing is perfect-some examples of what I dislike about steemit are scammers (scammers are in all social media platforms), spams, peoples sending phishing links, massive takeover of bots, abuse of posting limits with low quality posts in order to cash out (8 to 10+ daily posts) ,greed , addiction to the platform, and abuse of voting and flagging power.
Conclusion:
steemit just like any other platforms has its advantages (as indicated here ) on the other hand, there are limitations / downsides too. The important thing, is that the platform has given hope to many people who otherwise do not have any other means to financial freedom plus a great learning hub, networking etc and we all should be grateful to the ingenuity of blockchain technology.

Business model. It shouldn't only depends on new fund come in. Why should we also get income from ads.
I am still waiting for a company to step in and buy a lot of Steem Power to support the community and generate a lot of goodwill and promotion for their brand on this platform.

You named most of the reasons why I like steemit especially the educational/knowledge , financial , networking etc . However I dislike the greed and excessive use of bots especially those who posts low quality contents and move themselves to trending including abuse of flagging power and posts limits...however steemit will survive.

I like steemit. You can learn a lot from this platform. You have easy access to enter into the magical world of cryptocurrency.
To get in cryptocurrency, you have to buy cryptos or mine them. But here on steemit, you can earn steem and SBD making quality post and interacting with others. This is so cool!

However, the best for me is awareness that I am part of the movement that is changing lives for better, allowing people to earn for life expressing who they are, I am also so happy for making connections with amazing individuals all over the world.

There are good things and there are bad things about Steemit but as a whole I freaking love the platform.

Steem platform has many advantages viz fast and free transactions, opportunities for everyone to have cryptocurrencies without buying them and the freedom of speech.
However, there are some downsides which should be addressed. Self voting by big whales, misuse of bid-bots for low quality contents, voting circles, flag wars etc are some of the downsides which are harming this innovative platform. These problems must be addressed.
In spite of these shortcomings, I think steem platform has the potential to be the most successful cryptocurrency cum social media platform. Best of luck of us all.

I love the fact that Steemit allows for people to express whatever the hell they want. I've seen posts written by someone who is quite possibly a serial killer and then other posts that express a persons deepest feelings and experiences.
Not many platforms allow for such a diverse range of expressions.
I'm a little annoyed that you felt the need to pay for votes for this post. And also the fact that you seem to be displaying some affiliate link.

Hahahah good point...the issue with voting bots is that small accounts need some of it to exist or your posts will be lost. When I joined here last year-we do not use it much because whales upvote other peple posts however almost all are selling / dedicated their voting power t bots now. Hope the issue will be resolved
That would be sad it if were true. And I don't believe you are right. I've seen plenty of people make reasonable money here without buying votes.
The best thing about Steemit for me is that it is one of the few social media platforms where there is very little to no negativity or cancer in most of the comments. I also really like the way this platform can be used as a personal journal to help with reaching specific goals in life.
What I really dislike is that the more Steem Power you have, the more the platform rewards selfish behavior. It would be nice to see the curation getting fixed.

That's true, I've been thinking about ways to change how being more selfish is more profitable for big accounts but haven't been able to crack the code.
I learned today that there is a dust threshold on Steemit that makes all post or comment earnings worthless when they are below 0.02$ as a way to combat spam. (read This Post from @fullcoverbetting about it.) I also have upvoted comments on my post often with 0.01$ often just to show that the comment has been read these past 8 months without knowing about it.

This is pretty much very good platform to be and stay here, but I would definitely improve servers considering Dtube and similar because most of time it makes troubles and it just does not want to submit or upload videos. Anyway, I really hope this will not become as Facebook or similar. That it will stay true and reliable.

Okay, so education and knowledge can also be gathered on reddit, which is atm a pretty good spot for everyone. But the thing what makes steemit standing out, are the contacts you make on this platform.
The thing what i hate the most right now, are does spammers. C'mon, are comments and all the variations like "pls upvote", "i need help", "great post", "you are right" and "anything you do or write is like a dream" the sentences you want to read below your posts??

At present the thing I dislike the most about Steemit is the slow sign up process. I believe many problems could be solved if they would process newer people onto the platform at a much quicker rate.
It seems like only the spammers and scammers are able to get new accounts of late.

I think steems biggest advantage is its ability to be built ontop of (dtube,utopian,dsound ect.) and how aspiring writers can get paid without having to enter a professional position, thus meaning lots of people who wouldn't otherwise create content, do so.

At it's core, steemit is just a visual representation of the steem blockchain and many of it's problems like bot abuse / shitposting / making 12 posts a day and getting huge payouts on all of them can all be fixed or at least affected on the blockchain level - people who post with busy and other dapps may only visit steemit once in their life to sign up.

The thing i like about steemit is that there is a strong feeling of a community which wants to work together. this is very unusual and something that must be treasured and built upon. People listen, suggest and act. That is admirable and i hope that never goes away
Since we are a young community the content that is really popular is in a very narrow band (blockchain, cryptocurrency, some humour...). Maybe as we mature, we will broaden our interests

Technology, including steemit, is facilitator which means an instrument to make our life easier or better. However, technology is not final solution. In other word, technology is limited and it will produce limited facilitation, too.

Spams and peoples sending phishing links is not just problem of Steem but whole internet. Scammers are on all social media. Massive takeover of bots is bad for long run and I agree there should be posting limit, but problem is on Steem comments and posts are counted together.
Steemit is a vehicle for a right cause, taking the awareness of cryptocurrencies mainstream. This what I love about it.

The good:
New pages have been created that help users, new and old to continue growing, there are more pages that vote your posts and that is very good for the Spanish speakers that grows more and more our community.
The bad, It must be for the same changes that the platform is doing that is quite slow, to move from trending to my blog, for example, you have to wait a while and often do not finish making the change and until my session is closed .
The only thing I miss by now is a RSS feed.
It's a great system.
We transform the structure that many traditional sites dominate into a system that we create by dramatically sharing one another.
We live well together. I'm sure Steemit will.
And I strongly support it.
Many reasons men come here to gain popularity, coin, writing adrenalin satisfaction and whatever it takes. Great post you do through this posting is my personal view. Upps...I have come here for bucks.
