Today I've been invited to answer questions about the stars and our solar system at the forest kindergarten where my wife does her scholarship. It's called forest kindergarten because the kids are outside the whole year round. They have a big meadow and an adjacent forest where they can discover nature in day to day life.
Because teaching astronomy is basically what I do at my job I accepted the invitation with joy and did a little improvising to get the kids an idea of how the planets are moving around the sun (by doing a so called planet-dance), how the planets scale to each other and the sun, and how the sun actually looks thru a telescope. 🔭
It was lot of fun for all of us and I really enjoyed seeing how different the kids at the forest-kindergarten behave compared to kids visiting a common kindergarten. Even though I couldn't imagine doing the same program in winter 😱
Heute war ich im Waldkindergarten eingeladen, in dem meine Frau ihre Ausbildung macht, um den Kindern ihre Fragen über die Sterne und unser Planetensystem zu beantworten. In einem Waldkindergarten sind die Kinder das ganze Jahr über draußen, haben eine große Wiese und einen anschließenden Wald um sich entfalten zu können.
Da Astronomie mein Hauptfach ist, hab ich die Einladung gerne angenommen und den Kindern anschaulich erklärt wie die Planeten um unsere Sonne laufen, wie es mit den Größenverhältnissen aussieht und wie die Sonne durchs Teleskop aussieht. 🔭
Für mich war es genauso spaßig wie für die Kinder und am meisten begeistert hat mich zu sehen, wie unterschiedlich die Kinder im Waldkindergarten miteinander umgehen, verglichen zu Kindern in herkömmlichen Kindergärten. Ich könnte mir aber nicht vorstellen, das selbe Programm mit den Kindern im Winter zu machen, brr. 😱

Astronomy is already great to learn about but it must be even better with kids who are just entirely satisfied by outer space.

That's such a freaking awesome way to raise children . Take them to the "forest kindergarten" It's too bad that some countries regress while other evolve .
These days schools think they're keeping pace using tablets in schools and everything on a computer and most of the develop social anxiety and all sorts of modern conditions.
Look at those children in the pics they look so healthy and I bet they can't wait to get home and tell their parents what they've learned today.
I will bookmark this post and look more into this forest kindergarten and maybe give it as feedback or better yet save it as a business idea, it's freaking cool
thank you my friend! as i mentioned it was my first visit to one of those forest-kindergartens, and i was astounded of how balanced those kids were. in the morning it was a little bit rainy, they just stood outside and danced in the rain :D so fund to watch. but those kind of kindergartens are very seldom here in asutria as well .. government doesn´t sponsor it a lot, even though they are much cheaper because you do not have to pay a lot of rent for them ..
they also started as "private kindergartens" here in austria, so maybe it is a business idea indeed. if you need some more information i´d be happy to help you.

Ui Toll! Wie findest du Waldkindergarten nachdem du live dabeiwarst? Kenn die nur aus Dokumentationen und finde das ein gutes Konzept.
Wie oben schon kurz angedeutet, ich empfand die Kinder als sehr ausgeglichen, aufmerksam und einfühlsam. Kaum waren wir im Wald ist jedes Kind seinen Weg gegangen, Stecken suchen, Bäume anschauen, Harz sammeln, etc etc etc.. War total entspannte Atmosphäre und die Gruppen sind angenehm klein 12 Kinder und nur die eine Gruppe aber um 12:30 ist Schluss, somit passt das nicht für alle Eltern

Vielleicht haste ja Lust bei der Khan Academy den Astronomie Teil auf deutsch zu übersetzen? Hatte vor ein paar Tagen dazu n Post gemacht.
Ansonsten kann ich nur sagen, dass ich das echt schätze dass du so sozial engagiert bist. Bitte mehr davon :)
