Do movies and tv shows change our psychology?

in #education7 years ago

Television has become a great source of recreation. They provide relief from the everyday realities we must all deal with. The comedy, romance and tear-jerkers all do wonders for our soul. But.. do they change how we think and what we learn to expect?

The subconscious reason we watch tv is because it creates an alternate reality; one that we wish existed. We enjoy the humor, depth or lesson that comes from a show. Some of us love the mystery crime shows because we inherently love to apply logic to validate our pathological abilities. Some of us love to connect on stories that warm your heart and others love a realistic ending.

We all watch what our external personalities cannot always admit to. We live in a world with morals, obligations, expectations and a predisposed version of what the people around us want us to be like. The shows we watch and the movies that we love have an effect on our daily lives eventually. Movies validate our intrinsic desires-- they legitimize our thought processes and sometimes that may not be the best course of action.

Sure, most people don't watch murder shows and then go on a killing spree. But, they do adapt some element of the show and reacts to it. Subconsciously, you either want to be more like the hero or start upping your security level. These changes are very small and at times are only thoughts. Slowly, but surely, the change happens...

They have much greater influence than we might think. Sometimes it seems hard to live up to peoples expectations just because of the great impact of movies and TV shows that project the perfect life. I have noticed that especially with younger generations.
Good topic @jasir786

this is very true. What happens is that we think its funny or simply watching something fake. But our minds react to it and we wish to always recreate that feeling. its in some sense great and also dangerous.
