Working in the computer science/data science field I often look around to see what resources are available. With the pace and speed at which the industry is evolving, constant skill updates are a necessity. I came across the Microsoft Data Science Certification course and thought I would check it out.
Having worked for Microsoft I may be a little biased, however, if you subtract my bias and look at the general material it actually looks pretty good.
The course aims to teach you about the data science fundamentals, key data science tools and several of the programming languages used in data science.
The material is laid out in three units with a capstone project for the fourth unit. In total there are nine courses ranging from 16-32 hours in length, each.
The great thing about the program is that the courses are on edx.org. That means that they are free to view and partake. Now, if you want to obtain the actual certificate you will have to pay approximately $99 per course and you need to register with Microsoft Academy.
What is a data scientist?
Let me know your thoughts on the program and/or if you have taken it or know people that have taken it. It looks like the courses are good primers to data science. Not sure if it will get you any competition wins on Kaggle, but it's a start.
