What's the purpose of a child's education?

Apart from my regular job in the morning, I also work as a part-time English teacher online. There are a variety of students that I have ranging from children to adults and even though to some it might seem quite easy, that isn't always the case. Children are much harder to get responses out of compared to their adult counterparts but adults are even harder to please. But that isn't the story for this topic.

There are times when I have free talk classes with my adult students mainly to grasp how much they have learned and whether or not they can hold their own in a discussion. One of the topics that we discuss during our free talk class is Education. It is an important issue for everyone mainly because we want our kids to have a good education. A lot of the Steemians are parents and there are also those who are still single but will eventually have kids of their own but I am sure they have also thought about this issue from time to time either for themselves or for their kids.

A question that I usually ask most of my students when talking about this issue is "What is the purpose of a child's education?" Because I have noticed a lot of Chinese people force their children to take extra classes during the weekdays and even on weekends. These kids barely even get the time to play and do other things...how will they build happy memories that will help them out in the future?

It is a good question and one that can spark a lot of discussions because we are always comparing and competing against the grades of others. I remember the movie 3 idiots that I watched a few years back...it's an Indian movie and to be honest I am not fond of watching those since a lot of them tend to be overly exaggerated but this one was recommended by a friend so I decided to watch it.

Education has become more about memorizing what the teacher teaches you in the Asian countries instead of understanding the concepts that you need to know. I mean look at it...understanding will last you a lifetime but if you memorize something then it gets put in the short term memory box and is eventually lost. So what exactly is the purpose of a child's education if we are teaching them in the wrong one?

What do you guys think? Let us all try and answer this question and see what faults we can find in the education system today and how better we can improve it for the benefit of all of us and our children.

Thank you for reading. Much love to all of you. <3

It this generation, creativity inspiration is the most important

But that is the problem, most of the schools don't give much time for children to focus on their creativity.

So, I appreciate your post and put the question to all of us. I have not had the honor of having a baby, and for that most would say who are you? Well, I would say with the common mindset today I would not want children to be too sensitive or overly knowledgeable about gender, I would want children to know about how to take care of the earth, i would want our children to understand human history and frequency and vibration of humankind. I would also want our children to know about Energy and that we all have the ability to inherit energy work through different modalities. To farm land, to not rely on computers and smart phones. I’d love for children to read books out of joy and explore the earth as it is meant to be explored. To enjoy life with love and to share that with everyone. That is where I wold start with educating young ones.

Yes eaglespirit! There are few novels that are good to read concerning these ideas from a Russian author
https://www.amazon.com/Anastasia-Ringing-Cedars-Book-1/dp/0980181208 found a link to it. It's all about feeling earth's energies and working with them in practical as well as "mystical" or energetic ways. One has to pull out of the matrix enough for oneself to do this for a child. That can be a challenge in and of itself.

Hi there @galaxter22! Thank you for the added info. In my culture we say “We are All One.” It’s alsi true in the spiritual world. It’s called the collective consciousness. I’m not surprised about this book because in my world this is a commonality. The thinking has not taken off worldwide but it’s a large part of my life purpose. I just hope one day Earth will see Justice and slavery of humankind will end. The challenge is real, you are right about that! Ps. The ancients taught children energy work as a child .. it was the great teachers of our past that instructed us to ensure children were taught so much, most of those teachings are still available today. I hope it will be only a matter of time. xx

@Eaglespirit, thank you for taking the time to reply to this post and I agree with most of the points you have in this post. We are all one but at the same time we are all different. Like the branches and leaves of a tree, they are all one but each share a different characteristic from the other. Now a days children are being given smartphones and tablets and made to memorize a lot of details which are not really useful for them on the long run. Taking care of the earth and the people is a given, they should be taught that not only at school but also at home and I am going to be teaching my kid that. The teachers of the past not only instructed us on energy and many other things but proper ethics too which seems to be slowly disappearing from the conventional schools.

Hi @kyrios, first I would like to say you don’t have to agree and I would still be friendly. :) I am not overly sensitive to perspectives. Yes, I know about smartphones and tablets and curriculum. I dated a teacher who created curriculum for many years. From my experience love of earth and taking care of it has not been a given. Evidence lies in his Earth has been treated. Going on a simple hike in a national forest there are beer cans and bottles and those that use the bathroom without conducting the proper disposal. It is not common that people are taking care of natural resources too. I also was specifically thinking of such things as growing food, hunting, food storage, organic process of ingredients, taking care of livestock, sewing, cooking, etc. The point you make about Ethics is encompassed in my words of love and energy is derived from love. I do not expect everyone to understand what I mean, it’s been gone a very long time from “education.” Hopefully there will be a way someday to combine all to assist in helping our children become well rounded. Ciao for Now, Casandra.

PS. The comment regarding We are all One is in direct discussion with the person above your last comment. Yes we are all different, yet as a human we are all the same. That is the meaning of those words.

All work and no play will get you burned out same goes with education should be balanced. Like my daughter too many projects which I think is irrelevant and I think is not necessary out in the real world. Should focus more in preparation on their desired career.

I agree with that and they should also focus on nurturing what the children are good at. No two souls have the same interests.

Too many projects -
Too much busy-work
Expectations of homework, emphasis in Performance
and Competition
It's not for everyone.
Play and free time are educational tools, too. Adults somettimes need to let go of the control, let kids run wild and get loud and make messes.

Very lovely article, educative and full of sense. Keep it up man.

Thank you for shedding light on a very important and real situation! The education system given to us (force fed like geese made for their fatty liver, we are their livestock!) Must be rejected and replaced. Don't let them starve our souls ♥

A’oo!

Indeed!

Hey, Riz!

Hey there bro :)

A subject near and dear to my heart - thank you for this, Kyrios!
You've gotten so many replies already.
Our daughter lived in Spain one year and even those kids were pressured to perform, excell in extra-curricular as well as academic pursuits, and never get free time to just play and imagine and be.
I hope this idea catches one: "Free-Range Kids, Giving Our Children the Freedom We Had Without Going Nuts with Worry"
Book by Lenore Skenazy

It is one thing that books shouldn't be teaching us. Educational systems should already know this by themselves. Giving too much homework and assignments is detrimental to the child's mental health. Rather than finding it a task that they should enjoy, they will start to hate it more. We should be fostering them in a way that they love education and add interactive activities which make them have fun. They should also have plenty of free time to do other activities so that they can enjoy themselves while they are children. Adult life is tough enough as it is already why should they be forced to not have the time of their life without stress and heavy responsibilities while they have the chance.
