What does school really teach children?

in #education6 years ago

The schools need to be changed! Just because you are not good at remembering and repeating, does not mean you aren't intelligent! By middle school we basically know whether we have academic intelligence or not! High school should be focused on what we are good at! The ones good at academics should continue on that path, but the ones who aren't should be taught more about whatever they are good at! So when it's time to go out in the world we are all prepared to do whatever it is we are good at!

Orhan, I disagree that the university is one big argument from authority. If I quote Aristotle it is not because someone made him up, but because there's something to learn from him.

Again, school provides tools, a sense of perspective and all that. It's an opportunity, not a grand lie of mindless repetitions. Maybe you just don't like school. I can appreciate that. It is a gamble what you manage to remember and use, in any case. Ask someone who has a long life of experience.
„The things taught in schools and colleges are not an education, but the means to an education”.
“We are shut up in schools and college recitation rooms for ten or fifteen years, and come out at last with a bellyful of words and do not know a thing’.
Ralph Waldo Emerson
