A for Apple..

Primary education is essential for all human beings who live in the society. However does it mean that all humans should be taught like robots, that in the end will produce people who aim for the same job, the same mindset, the same pay scale and the same type of vacation?

It does sound ridiculous.

Children are not allowed to think different. They are not given the opportunity to write their own answers. Instead they are given notes which they learn by heart and write down in exams for which they are graded according to the capability to memorize - somewhat similar to parrots.

The end product - some of them learn to read outside of the classroom and go on to become intelligent and successful if they bother to pursue their goals. The others go on to become workers who do the same work every day till and also end up owing debts and ultimately the cycle repeats again and again.

Let us strive to modify the education system.

How?

Teach children to think for themselves. Let them tell the teacher what they think about the sun. Details can be taught in higher classes.

Teach children to discover their own talents and skills. Instead of teaching all the children to learn to dance or draw, try to expose them to what they like and discover what they are good in and then develop it.

For example, a student may not be good in physical activities like sports but may be good in indoor games like chess or caroms. It won't do good to try and train such a student in long jump or javelin throw, right?

Primary school education should include not only academics but lessons in self development, self awareness, field trips, connecting with nature, interacting with other children, fun filled lessons, and even cooking classes which will help them understand the importance of consuming good food at an early age.

Making the teachers competent

Many teachers are not technically updated. The children who enroll in the school are really competent when it comes to gadgets and the like. The teachers who are not competent enough may not be able to clear the doubts of children completely in such cases. This is especially true in remote villages and other such places in third world countries.

Imagine a school where almost 90% of the children are talented in one way or another. It would be a matter of pride for the school, teachers, the parents and the community too.
What if these students are well mannered and disciplined as well? That would be the icing because what we all want is a generation of children who know how to respect elders, their equals and the younger ones. The crime rate of the present would be reduced considerably if we succeed in this.

A society that is perfect in all ways is not possible but it is not impossible to reduce the crime and violence. The media too has to help by reducing the need to air shows or movies that urge violence or glorifies it.
