You're either going to believe the scientific theory of creation or the religious one. And both require the exact same leap of faith.

Ultimately the universe (or more accurately its precursor) 'sprung' into existence. From nothingness, I guess.

OR

Ultimately god(s) sprung into existence. From nothingness, I guess. Which then went on to create the universe (or more accurately its precursor).

Now, if you like your metaphors, why not just consider 'god' and the universe and all its mysteries to be essentially the same thing?

Ps. The thing that really keeps me up at night worrying is what's going to happen if we ever get to understand the true nature of creation (and all agree on it). I can't see how things could ever be the same again in such an eventuality.
