Gridcoin is on BOINC you are quite right, Im not sure about the decentralisation issue though, there is no 'centre' to BOINC except some open source software. Anyone can publish work on the BOINC platform, at any time.
Yes and I have used BOINC too. Nothing wrong with some competition though :)
